This comic has the distinction of being both Fables #150, the final issue in a long-running monthly series, and Fables Vol. 22, the last of the Fables trade paperback collections. It includes a lengthy main story that aims to wrap up all the various loose ends in Bill Willingham's long saga and plenty more of the "Last

Story" vignettes we've been seeing in recent issues. Given just how many loose ends there were coming into this final chapter, it's not surprising that the main story isn't as conclusive or enthralling as it might have been. But as a complete package, this comic serves as a fitting farewell to the Fables franchise.

The core Fables comic can be divided into three distinct phases. The first 75 issues revolved around the conflict with the Adversary and his vast empire. The next 30-ish issues shifted focus to a conflict with even more powerful and nefarious Mr. Dark. The rest? Well, it's harder to pin down exactly what Fables has been about these past few years. Willingham has alternated among Rose Red's journey of personal growth and self-discovery, the centuries-long rivalry between Rose and her sister, the development of Snow and Bigby's cubs, the lingering evils left behind by Mr. Dark and various other little conflicts and subplots. Most of these conflicts have intersected to some degree, but since Mr. Dark's defeat it's never really felt like Fables has had a singular, driving force like it did in years past.
