Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
Sometimes the best way to deal with having an overwhelming amount of content to cover in a short period of time is simply to gloss over the small stuff and focus on the large details. “Reborn”, the series finale of Falling Skies, exceeds that by also glossing over the big moments as well. The culmination of five years of story that chronicled humanity's struggle to overcome all odds and thwart a highly advanced alien race came to an abrupt conclusion with what ended up being a rehash of some iconic visuals from Aliens and a let’s-make-everyone-happy conclusion for all involved.
The hornet invasion that served as last week’s cliffhanger didn’t amount to much of anything, save for the fact that Marty died. Hey, I know they just introduced Marty a few weeks ago but he had a more pivotal impact on the plot than some of the regulars did. He found the Espheni communication device and then used his biochemistry skills just last week to help bioengineer the magic bullet into a device that wouldn’t harm humans, which was pivotal this week. So there was some actual weight to his death. Dan saying that he wouldn’t forget Marty was great. They had really developed an understanding and mutual respect after the hostage situation from a few weeks ago.
