Warning: full episode spoilers follow!
Much like The Simpsons this week, there was nothing about this episode of Family Guy that screamed "season finale." It's a wonder Fox didn't flip-flop "Take My Wife and "Fighting Irish." At least the latter had the Liam Neeson guest appearance to bank on. Not only did "Take My Wife" fail to work as a fitting conclusion to Season 13, it wasn't a very good episode in general.
Family Guy is pretty long in the tooth now, and it faces the same struggle The Simpsons has for the past 15 years in terms of not repeating itself and rehashing old storylines. This episode lost that battle pretty decisively. Both storylines this week felt overly familiar and were content to keep hitting the same beats we've seen before.
