The new Fast X trailer gives fans their first look at the beginning of "the end of the road" for the franchise. The latest sequel brings back all our surviving favorites, from Vin Diesel's fearless Dom Toretto to Sung Kang's beloved Han Lue. But as is only fitting for the tenth main entry in this long-running series, there are quite a few new faces in the mix.

Who are these new characters? How does Jason Momoa's villain tie back to the events of Fast Five? Is Brie Larson's Tess friend or foe? And who is Rita Moreno playing? Let's break down all the new additions to Dom's ever-growing family.

Jason Momoa as Dante

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is undoubtedly the biggest addition to the ensemble cast this time around. Unsurprisingly, Momoa is playing the latest villain to threaten the Toretto clan. Equally unsurprising, he's a character with close ties to another villain from earlier in the series. It really is all about family in this universe.

Momoa's character is named Dante, and he's the son of Joaquim de Almeida's Fast Five character Hernan Reyes. As the trailer reminds us, Dom and Brian stole Reyes' money by driving a bank vault through the streets of Rio de Janeiro (causing what we can only imagine was hundreds of millions of dollars in damage). That act robbed Dante of both his family fortune and his father, and it seems he's been plotting against Dom ever since.

“He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock," Momoa told Variety. "He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues.”

It's probably safe to assume he's colluding with Charlize Theron's hacker villain Cipher, as we briefly see her in the trailer, too. Though director Louis Leterrier teased that Cipher may have finally found the one partner too much even for her to handle.

"They are bad news, but one is more afraid than the other," Leterrier told Empire Online. "One is worse news than the other."

Fast X is where Dante's plans come to fruition. He doesn't want to kill Dom, but make him suffer in the same way Dante has suffered for the past 12 years. Given the ominous way the trailer is framed and the fact that the series is rapidly nearing its endpoint, there's a good chance at least one of our heroes will meet their end against Dante. After all, we need a good cliffhanger leading into Fast 11.

What About Dwayne Johnson's Agent Hobbs?

The trailer does raise one interesting question regarding Dante's feud with our heroes. Where is Agent Hobbs in all of this? Dwayne Johnson made his series debut in Fast Five, and his character is the one who executes Reyes in revenge for the deaths of his team members. So why is Dante focusing all of his wrath on Dom and not the man who actually killed his father?

It's enough to wonder how different the plot of Fast X might have been if Johnson had agreed to return. Unfortunately, though Diesel extended the invitation, Johnson made it clear there's "no chance" of him appearing in another mainline Fast and Furious movie. Dante is just going to have to settle for making Dom's life miserable.

Brie Larson as Tess

Brie Larson also makes her debut as Tess, a character who works for the Agency (that top-secret CIA analogue run by Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody.). Universal's official description calls her a "rogue representative from the Agency." Based on what we see in the trailer, Tess seems determined to help Dom and his family fight back against Dante, even if that puts her at odds with her colleagues and their new boss.

Alan Ritchson as Agent Rimes

Speaking of new bosses, Fast X is introducing Alan Ritchson as Agent Rimes, the new man in charge of the Agency. As we saw in F9, Mr. Nobody was apparently killed in action when the plane carrying Cipher was hijacked. We don't know for sure that Nobody is actually dead (characters have come back from a lot worse in this series), but he does appear to be off the board for the time being.

In his place, Rimes is taking over the Agency and transforming it into a more militant group that's a little less fond of working alongside former theieves and street racers. In fact, it looks as though Rimes and his team will be arresting Dom's team at some point during the course of Fast X. Whether he's actually working with Dante or is just a helpful distraction, he's going to make things that much more difficult for the Toretto clan this time.

Rita Moreno as Abuela Toretto

We're slowly meeting the other members of Toretto family. F9 introduced both John Cena as Dom's estranged brother Jakob and J.D. Pardo as the late Jack Toretto. Now we're going to meet the matriarch of the family in Fast X.

Rita Moreno plays Abuela Toretto, grandmother to Dom, Mia and Jakob. She'll apparetly be stopping by to join in on a family barbecue and dispense some grandmotherly advice. But as to whether Abuela has a bigger part to play in the conflict, we'll have to wait and see.

We do have to wonder where this character has been for the previous nine movies. Why didn't we meet Abuela before now? And for that matter, why have we still never heard word one about Dom's mother? Maybe there are a few more family secrets to air before the series takes its final bow.

Daniela Melchior's Mystery Character

The Suicide Squad's Daniela Melchior is the last major addition to the cast in Fast X, though we don't know much about her character at this point. Universal hasn't even revealed her name. Melchior is playing a Brazilian street racer who has some sort of connection to Dom's past (probably dating back to the days he was an international fugitive).

The fact that we don't know her name suggests it could be a big spoiler. Is she a blood relative of one of the F&F regulars? Could she even be Dom's long-lost daughter? There's always room for another branch on this family tree.
