This Sunday, AMC is launching their spinoff/prequel to the smash hit The Walking Dead with Fear the Walking Dead and I recently sat down with the show’s executive producer, Dave Erickson, to discuss the series.
A former writer for Sons of Anarchy and Low Winter Sun, Erickson told me his approach to the show and the characters, starting with the blended family unit Fear the Walking Dead centers on, and how to navigate the sometimes-tricky prequel terrain of the audience being ahead of the characters, in terms of their knowledge of the situation.
IGN: Does launching this off of The Walking Dead sometimes feel like a bit of a double-edged sword? You’re coming off of something so successful, which is great because you’re going to get a lot of instant attention, but at the same time does it raise the pressure on feeling, “We’ve got to deliver something interesting here?”
