Fight Club's original ending has been restored by Chinese streaming platform Tencent Video after its censored ending sparked fan outcry.

Though not completely returned to normal, 11 of the 12 minutes deleted by Tencent Video have now been added back into Fight Club, as indicated by The Hollywood Reporter. The only parts not restored are sex scenes between Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham-Carter's characters, separate from the ending of the movie.

David Fincher's original film ended with Edward Norton's character killing off his alter-ego with a gunshot to his own head. He then watches as bombs topple several international bank headquarters, signalling the collapse of the world's economy.

Tencent Video's version of the cult classic saw the film's closing scenes cut and replaced with a text-only screen that read: "The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding."

The new ending saw ridicule and backlash from fans across the world, and it seems that made it through to Tencent Video, which made the changes after just two weeks. Censorship within China's entertainment industry is fairly common, with one common expectation from storied being that criminals must be punished for their crimes.

Ironically, one fan of the censored version was its original creator. Fight Club's author Chuck Palahniuk pointed out that the censored version was actually closer to his original book's ending.
