which is better in terms of flavor, absorbsion, break in time and durability - flavor retention over the days?
is any of the two as good as your normal cotton of choice like cotton bacon, cotton candy etc?

I'm not sure, a friend went home to Japan and brought me back a big bag of 180 pcs of cotton squares. That stuff has virtually no break in and great flavor retention. Can get similar package if not the same,at Vapor Range for $15.

I’ve used Cotn Threads and Cotton Bacon, the threads are convenient being aglet’d and premeasured but that’s about the only advantage I feel they have, after a couple squonks they both give great flavor. I think I paid $3 for a 20pk for 3mm ID coils so they’re a little more expensive than a pack of Cotton Bacon.

I'm not really high on the Cotn Threads. As IcepickMaker84 said the only thing they have going is the convenience. Cotton bacon prime, for me, if far superior in flavor, absorption, break in, and durability.

Man dude. My taste buds must be shot out. I am still a dual user struggling with the smokes. I don't taste any difference with any wicking material. I don't get a wet sock taste or any of the other described flavors from new o.owicking material. I've used cotton bacon, native wicks, and a little box of cotton that came with 10 coils. I just do not taste a difference. Now when I do put the smokes down ( 3-5 a day ) maybe my tasters will change. Don't get me wrong I tast burnt. Which leads me into this. I allowed somebody to use my vape at work. I have an original crown on top of a ipv8. This individual really likes my juice. And he Vaped me dry. Like burned my coil to hell. Should I kill him? When I mentioned it to him he acted as though it was not a big deal. But I do get three weeks out of an original Crown coil and I just put this one in a couple of days prior. Sorry for venting.

Vent away my friend. Killing him, while it may be temporarily satisfying, is probably not the best plan.

As for being a dual user you are not alone. I struggle with that same problem as have many here. I can't taste the subtle differences in coil metals as many can, but I do taste differences in wicking materials.

Never tried Firebolt, but I have Cotn threads, CB v2 and Prime, and Japanese cotton pads.
None of them suck, but everything considered, at the moment, I like the good ol pads the best.
