Howdy Humans! So I just tried to make my first parallel Clapton wire. Straightened two pieces of 26 Ga Kanthal, chucked them in the drill and wrapped them with 32Ga Kanthal. The core wires twisted inside the wrap and I spent an eternity trying to make them parallel. Any tricks?
I'm assuming that if the core isn't parallel the coil will short out. Right?
Shit, I need a table mounted magnifying glass light to do this work. Tedium is so stimulating!

The coil wont short out. You need to make sure to apply tension to avoid them twisting.

You mean apply tension as you're wrapping the coil? I'm not sure how I could apply tension as I spun the core wires and wrapped them unless I had synchronized opposing drills spinning simultaneously ....
I'll be using a coil jig when I wrap so tension will be applied....

OK, I think I figured out a jig with a fishing swivel to hold the free end. We'll see how that works.

Stupid Human Me! I finally watched a build video and figured out to grab the end of the parallel strands with a pliers and reverse the direction of the drill to get the twist out. Sigh......

So I wrapped a few parallel claptons, 26Ga kanthal parallel core with 32Ga kanthal Clapton. Wrapped one up about six or seven wraps and installed as a single coil on the velocity. Taped off one side of the atty and fired it up. I realized that my mods were just too underpowered to really enjoy the coil. Pulled it and waiting on the vape mail for more power. Got some coils wrapped and put aside.
Interesting experiment. Next comes parallel fused claptons.
More power Mr. Scott!
I'm giving her all she's got Captain! The Dilithium crystals are breaking down!!!!

Parallel clapton (ie fused clapton) is a great coil. Takes a bit of practice but it is worth it. If i could give any pointers i would say use a ball bearing swivel on loose end or tape to secure core wires. When doing the clapton hold light tension on the wrap wire only. Too much pressure makes it all twist up. Takes practice. In time you can do some really tine stuff. Check out my coil porn thread for more. Let me know how i can help.
