Flavor ratio changes with PG/VG changes

Hi All! Still reading through as much of these threads that my eyes can handle. I've just received everything except the base liquids (PG/VG/Nic). Reading through a bunch of recipe threads here and on the e-liquid-recipes site, I'm understanding that changing the PG/VG ratio can not only change the intensity of the flavors, more PG, more flavor, but also the balance of the flavors.

Is there a rule of thumb or is it pure experimentation and experience when adjusting for changes in PG/VG ratio? Or does it not matter that much as long as you're close to the original ratios? Or should I not worry about it and mix it, try it and adjust either way? I have a feeling it's the last thing, but I'm curious.

I may be making too much of a science out of something so subjective, but curiosity killed the cat!)

Thanks!

I have not found that higher PG ratios does anything for flavors only viscosity. Just my opinion and not based on any facts just my own observations. I also prefer a higher VG ratio for the thickness of my e-Liquids.

You're right the 3rd option, don'y worry about it mix it and adjust. Make small amounts like 5 or 10 ml and adjust to YOUR taste, seems like everyone tastes things a little differently

I've mixed some of my faves in a high PG base, and also in a high VG base, just for different kinds of tanks. I really didn't make any adjustments to the flavorings and they tasted about the same to me. Same flavorings, same steep time, maybe only the slightest difference in flavor. Not enough for me to recreate those though.

My preference is higher PG, just because higher VG makes my chest hurt, and makes me cough.

Argusi had a lot of time waiting for my supplies and did the same as you with getting as much information as possible. Was toying with the drop method and this and that. 10ML or 15ML???

When it came down to it I did a 30ML batch straight out of the gate. 200ML later not one drop wasted. Just dive in and make sure your nicotine calculation is correct.

I hear ya. I used to do 50/50, then as I moved to sub ohm I tend to do 30/70 PG/VG to calm it down a bit on my throat.

That sounds like a plan. I'll just do 30ml though, 'cause I'm a glutton for punishment!

This is good to hear the consensus seems to be very little change. I used to do high PG too. I didn't worry about blowing huge clouds and liked the flavor, but it started to make my throat itch, 180 degree opposite of your symptoms.

We're similar in the way we think. I contemplated the same thing and ended up buying a bunch of 30ml bottles. Go big or go home! I have bigger bottles in my shopping cart waiting to pull the trigger when it's time. Free 2 day shipping rocks!

I am using an Android app to do the calculations and the nic number won't change anytime soon unless I cut down on nic. 3.33ml of 36. Ingrained in my thick skull.

How much on the 30ML bottles and where?

I bought 10 of them from Nude Nicotine when I ordered the base liquids (still waiting for delivery). They weren't the cheapest around. 30ml glass amber dropper bottles at a buck a piece plus whatever the combined shipping was. I was just tired of searching around.

Amazon has 1 Oz (30ml) Boston Round Glass Amber Bottles with Glass Dropper Tip & Rubber Bulb - Pack of 12 for $9.00 with Prime free 2 day shipping. These are the ones I'll get next. Not sure if they are the "right" bottles for e-liquid, but they look right! If I get something I like enough, I'll order some 4oz ones.

You can probably search around there for "Boston Round Glass Bottles with Glass Dropper Tip" if you're interested. They have blue and clear with and without the dropper tops in a bunch of sizes. I'm an Amazon whore.

I am probably going to order from Liquid Barn and get the plastic bottles when I order more flavorings.

Huck you ever buy from there? It looks like bottle and droppers are separate??

I buy from there for nic storage bottles, though I've purchased juice bottles there, too. I rarely buy droppers, I have so many from Halo bottles. Everything is separate. I buy a case of bottles and caps to accomodate. Good prices, though. I order plastics as I need them from wherever is convenient, ebay, amazon, or if I'm ordering other items from a vendor, I order from there to save on shipping. Ebay and amazon are easier to find free shipping.

Are they the ones with color options for caps, or am I maybe thinking of Heartland?

That would be Heartland. They are my go to for plastic 30 mls. You get your choice of cap color and 100/30 mls are like $29 + shipping. Beats ordering from China on ebay and waiting 2 weeks to get it.

It certainly does. Where are you getting it? Wait, sorry-- do you mean just bottles from Nude Nicotine? Or are you talking about bottles of flavor. Ignore me if this is another case of me not reading the thread carefully enough!

On the :vu: you most likely will not be ignored but be politely informed you misread the post! This isn't that shit hole forum that Rhymes With Earl Cancellation Fee..................

Is there a rule of thumb or is it pure experimentation and experience when adjusting for changes in PG/VG ratio?

PG/VG ratio is more of a personal preference.
But the equipment being used is usually way more fussy about the viscosity.
A few have had trouble tasting flavors using higher VG, and raising the PG helped.
Experimentation is more of a "rule of thumb" than anything:idea:

We say DIY saves so much money but I am shocked at what some of the prices are for empty bottles! Makes me sick to think about all the bottles I have thrown away over the years!

roflmao!-- i have not thrown a bottle away yet (course im only 5+/- months into vaping.

my 'bottle' issues are:
quite a variety of styles and sizes
some i didnt even order they showed up as 'freebies' from vendors

i ended up liking the tiny ones with a 'rubber neck tie cap' for trying new recipes.. but that is all

i like the glass ones for storage and display purposes if i leave one out on a table.......i tend to put stuff away

i would prefer they were matched,,,,,,,,,,but at the same time,, their differences helped me find the right one in the dark lol

i do like the 10+30 ml plastic needle tip ones to throw in my pocket when i will be somewhere walking a lot

i like the Slim's 50ml bottles for larger batches i make and do like........(not going well right now lol)

something i have done,, and not necessarily proud of,, is i have bought stickers or cartoon themes etc that i like,, and have 'stickered up a few bottles heavily........for visual identification,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ie,,odd mixes and my base bottle so i dont get it mixed up with other bottles.
