Well, I'm rapidly figuring out what I DON'T like. LOL. Frustration is creeping into my DIY efforts. I need to develop the virtue called patience, I think. Or else I'm going to continue to spend way too much on vendor ejuice and wasted DIY supplies. I do not like FA joy, and INW Biscuit. Biscuit may be ok, but it's super easy to overdose on it. I'm not giving up though. Patience may not be one of my virtues but stubbornness is. I am still on the hunt for a good custard base. I'm trying 8% TFA vanilla custard and backing off the dulce de leche to 2%. I'm forcing myself not to touch it for now. It needs it's beauty steep.

Planning to try a small batch of the sugar cookie recipe entry posted here too. I'm a sucker for the sweet stuff.
Edited 3 times for crappy spelling.o_O

Have you tried any of these flavors in a small stand alone mix?

And steep time is your friend. Not only does it improve flavors, it will help you spot the flavors in a mix that don't really work like you thought they would.

It definitely is a test in patience and persistence. You'll get there with the effort. Read read read. Experiment experiment and more. But take notes and be methodical. Like was stated above; know what the single flavors taste like. I tried the custard with the dulce de leche. After a few mixes and variations I came to the personal conclusion that I can't stand dulce de leche. At least the brand I got, I can't remember if it was TFA or Cap. It ruined everything I added it to for me and that was at low percentages.

Have you tried gameover custard from Mama J's? Not much thinking on that one when it comes to mixing they give you the recommended percentage. I haven't gotten it for awhile but it is really good. As a premixed flavor where all you do is add the vg/pg/nic it's a little more expensive but when you consider the amount you can make with it versus what you pay for "premium" juice you're way money ahead. From what I've gathered on here in a few posts they may be in the process of moving to CA so hopefully that won't take long.

While you're getting your fix of custard though you can keep working on DIY. Took me quite awhile and I really got impatient at times too. I don't consider myself anywhere close to a master but I am at a point where I can come up with an idea and have it usually not taste too bad at all, then tweak it and play with it till I have something I really like. When I was first starting I was too impatient and not methodical enough for that to happen. Plus I started small on flavors and would always seem to be missing something. That still happens lol. But I do have a lot more flavors to choose from and also know what my staple flavors are that I can't let myself run low on.

You'll get there. Tons of amazing people here who are always really eager to help too. This is a great community.

I have a bunch of small samples steeping. All standalone at around 2%. Some of them do not even smell appetizing yet. FW custard and biscuit in particular. TFA blueberry extra smells good though. I've pretty much limited myself to mostly 2 flavor mixes, with the occasional 3. I got an order in recently also, and haven't had a chance to make individual samples yet.
For now, I'm taking a breath and starting over. And not touching the custard. LOL.

I did talk to the owner of a local shop and she did recommend starting off with the TFA Custard at 8% and dulce at 2%. Course I had already done it, so...hopefully it will be at least vapeable.

I've tried many of the "Custard" recipes floating around and didn't care for the ones with DDL in them.
Once I removed the TFA DDL from the recipes they got better.
Worth a shot to try some without it.

Yes. I'll try it. I did break down and sample the goods. Not bad, but still a tad perfumey at 24 hours. I expected that though. I'm not making any judgements or adjustments til it hits 1 or 2 weeks.

This is a really good custard recipe: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/150112/Third+World+Custard

This mixer is good actually, I love the Maiden's Milk recipe he has. I actually have a bottle of Mothers Milk and I like Maiden's Milk better in some ways.

Here is all his recipes but I have only tried the 2 I listed above so far:

I sold my FA Joy, I couldn't shake the smell of flat bear out of my mind every time I used it in a recipe. I like INW Biscuit but it is tricky to use so that it doesn't over power a mix, if it is too much then the flavor is not too my liking.

Making your own recipes is the toughest, now I know why Suicide Bunny and other high end juice makers do not add new flavors at a brisk rate or at all. I still really enjoy it and when I go back to a B&M to sample new juices I am generally very happy with my own mixes compared to them.

Oh wait, I forgot I did make the above posted mixers Hawaiian Tiger's Blood but I am missing 1 ingredient so I left it out. Still tasty but not like the other 2 I tried from him. I do have his Creamy Caramel Custard steeping but am using other flavors as I don't have any of the ones he listed. Just from a shake n vape though it tasted good.
