So im new to using nichrome 80 and was wondering if anyboday had any tips on how it acts for them in their builds. I guess i would be an itermediate builder. Anyways the issue im having now is my normal build is a fused clapton made of 2 26g A1 cores and wraped in 34g A1, 3mm, 6wrap, ~0.22ohm. But what im having trouble with is the same build but 34g nichrome 80 instead of the A1. Every time i go to dry fire it (@45-50w) they have really bad shorts, dont heat evenly, dont heat from the inside out and the resistence is way low compared to the final resistence @ room temp. Could it be the brand of wire im using or maybe do my final # of wraps on a drill to get them tighter?

Any input would be apprecieated thanks

You should be doing the whole coil with a drill. and like ej said make sure u strum the coils at first when firing.

I wrap the "build" wire on a drill but when I wrap it into a coil i use a vice and nylon plyiers. And by rake to coil do you just drag a srew driver across it? Because I'll slip in the screw driver every so ofter to work out the shorts.

Yeah strum the wire the same way a guitarist would a guitar, just use something besides your finger, obviously lol. I mainly use Nichrome and it will go up in resistance as you glow them. I usually build it 0.05ohms lower than my target resistance. Might take some getting used too

Ni80 is great. I love it, much more so than A1, as it has a much faster ramp up time, and I feel better flavor. Raking the coils, or "strumming" them is key. I use ceramic tweezers to do so, both during pulsing, and while it is cooling. Placing your coil rod through the coil and giving it a slight wiggle here and there is a good way to work out hot spots also. Give your coils love, and eventually they'll cooperate for ya. Ni80 fused claptons are my go to build, usually with a single strand of round wire paralleled for a staged heating coil, which provides even faster ramp up for the claptons, and BOMB flavor! CHEERS! GL!

For the most part i like to stay around 0.20-0.25ohms because I dont care for a hot vape or to push my battery limits. And yea fused claptons ftw right now lol. When you switched from kanthal to nichrome did you notice it took longer to dry fire and work out hot spots, because for me it seems to take about twice as long to dry fire nichrome than kanthal. I need to get some "pro" tweezers Im always worried about chipping mine.

Yeah, it d led take longer to work out the coils , this is because Ni80 is a softer metal, and more malleable , which I think contributes to it taking longer. I have never had any issues with my ceramic twewzrwes, and I am kinda rough on them lol, they are made by UD, and are quite durable it seems. I git em online for less than 10$
