Games-as-Service Model Helps EA and Activision Grow By a Combined $79 Billion

Judging by a report from analyst group DFC Intelligence, the games-as-a-service trend popularized by Activision and EA is here to stay. First reported by GameDaily, EA and Activision have grown by a combined $79 billion since 2012, propelled by games-as-service style releases.

DFC Intelligence studied the value of both games-as-a-service and standard releases with one-off purchases. In terms of games-as-service, Activision's value has ballooned from $10 billion in 2012 to $60 billion. Meanwhile, EA has grown to $33 billion, a marked increase from its $4 billion value in 2012.
