Getting juice out of mod (Ehpro SPD 50W).

Hi everyone.

I had an unfortunate issue recently, I had left a tank on my SPD 50W that decided to drop everything it was carrying.

Somehow, this has got inside the mod as well-so much so, that about 2MM or so of juice fills the screen, and moves around when you tilt the mod.
I am not using that mod, and will not be, unless I can get the juice out and also give everything a clean. It does still power on and works, but due to the amount of juice, I will not use it.

I have tried to take the mod apart, but this mod is a bugger to get to the board, and it is very tight in there, unlike other mods which I have taken apart easily.

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to get the juice out? Or do you think it best to just toss the SPD 50W, as it was only purchased as a cheap addition to the collection.

I would ideally like to get it safe to use again, but if there is no way, it is time to lay it to rest :(.

Thanks, Conan.

well, most mods have venting for the electronics
I don't see why you cant tilt it to use the vent holes as drainage holes.

Disassemble as much as possible. Then repeatedly dunk the mod in 99% isopropyl alcohol. Shake out as much of the alcohol as possible and then let air dry, preferably for a day or two to ensure that all of the alcohol has evaporated off.

Make sure you use 99% iso. The 70% stuff has too much water in it and will take too long to dry and may cause oxidation.

Make sure that you allow it to dry completely before reassembling. You don’t want to press the fire button while the mod is full of flammable alcohol vapor.

Better yet, buy a couple cans of spray electronics cleaner, use the pipe tip to get in the vent holes and rinse it out. The stuff is fast drying and won't hurt the mod, because the spray cleaner was meant to clean PC boards and electronics. I use it all the time.

I have a spray can of electrical contact cleaner, which I have used on my IPV D2 as it was having firing issues, that now seems to be sorted.

It just seems this mod is extremely hard to remove the board from, taking the top and bottom off it seems near impossible to remove it. I will try flushing it through with the cleaner though, as it is a small, lightweight mod that I enjoyed due to its size.

I will attempt to flush it through, and see how it goes, as I always feel a little sad having to retire mods.

I will update here how it goes, fingers crossed it works :).

It seems like the SPD is pretty much sealed in that respect, the board is in front of where the battery is inserted, and even with the screws off of top and bottom, it seems like the board will not come out.

I will leave it open, and also try to flush it through with Contact cleaner as @Zamazam suggested, and hopefully can add it back into rotation for use.
