The problems with the Green Lantern franchise pre-Convergence were twofold. There were too many Lantern comics, and they were too interconnected and prone to getting drawn into crossover events. Post-Convergence, the Lantern franchise has been trimmed down, and each book is now allowed to stand on its own and pursue its own ends. Green Lantern: The Lost Army is making the most of that newfound freedom.Essentially, this series is shaping up to be the Star Trek: Voyager of the GL franchise, albeit it not as lame. At this early stage, the book is propelled by the mystery of where in the universe the wayward Lanterns are and why they were suddenly transported there. This issue offers some compelling wrinkles to that mystery, suggesting it's not merely a question of where and not a dilemma with a straightforward solution. Bunn manages to make the series accessible while also building on previous New 52 GL stories in interesting ways.
