Nearly 40 years after their original debut, GWAR remains one of the hardest working heavy metal groups around. Fresh off a new tour and live album release, the band is once again exploring the comic book realm with a new original graphic novel dubbed GWAR: The Duoverse of Absurdity.

As the title suggests, The Duoverse of Absurdity plunges these infamous shock-rockers into the multiverse,. In this tale, they encounter twisted (well, more twisted) versions of themselves from an alternate dimension, forcing GWAR to defend their universe from these would-be conquerors.

GWAR: The Duoverse of Absurdity is co-written by Michael Derks (Balsac the Jaws of Death) and GWAR singer Matt Maguire, with art by Andy MacDonald (2020 Machine Man) and Shane White (Negative Burn). The book is being published through Z2 Comics, whose previous fusions of graphic novel and music include Czarface: A Czar is Born and Machine Gun Kelly's Hotel Diablo.

Here's the official summary for GWAR: The Duoverse of Absurdity:

What can be more horrifying and terror-inducing than GWAR? The moment they must face the vomitous incarnations of themselves from a filthy alternate dimension! They've penetrated our world by rupturing the membrane which protected our very existence from these walking horrors. Unleashed in our universe, these dark mirror incarnations are bent on dominating and subjugating all of humanity to the will of The Master. Now... it is GWAR's throbbing, messy duty to save us all before it's too late!

Originally founded in 1984, GWAR has a long history of blending heavy metal music with other storytelling media. The band have spent decades establishing a complex mythology behind their hyper-violent, costumed stage personas. GWAR even won a Grammy in 1992 for their feature-length music video Phallus in Wonderland.

GWAR: The Duoverse of Absurdity will be released in May 2022. The book is now available to preorder on Z2's website in both softcover and hardcover forms, along with various limited edition bundles.

Even as GWAR returns to the printed page, their two biggest fictional fans are gearing up for a comeback. We recently got an early look at Mike Judge's Beavis & Butthead revival, and the two slackers haven't exactly aged gracefully.
