Southpaw actor Jake Gyllenhaal recently admitted he became a bit emotional when his parents, director Stephen Gyllenhaal and writer Naomi Foner, wouldn't allow him to accept a lead role in 1992's The Mighty Ducks.
"I definitely remember crying on the kitchen counter," Gyllenhaal, who would have been about 11 at the time The Mighty Ducks was filmed, said during an interview on The Howard Stern Show (via The Wrap). "I was like, 'You guys are crazy.'"
According to the actor, his parents were concerned the role would interfere with his education. Therefore, they turned down the role. "My parents were like, 'Look, you’re about to enter junior high school, you gotta get your education, that’s the most important thing. I promise you, you hate us now, but you’ll thank us later,'" said Gyllenhaal. "And I do."
