Hello everyone, on the 1st of February this year I ordered on sale the COV Kindred V2 in SS, which straight away became my favourite mech mod in the collection.
Suddenly over the weekend I noticed sudden heat in the fire button, and I looked at the bottom of the mech and when I pressed the fire button sparks were going from the edge of the fire button to the outside wall of the mech!
I obviously pulled the battery straight away, and took the C clip that was holding the magnetic firing switch together, and came across this amount of corrosion, which had no way happened in under 2 months worth of use. Where the coating had came off of the magnets it was causing resistance in the firing button causing the heat and sparks.
I luckily had a spare Kindred V2 in copper that I never used, so took the switch apart on that one, and took the magnets from that one that were not corroded and put them into the SS fire button mechanism, along with the super soft spring (I don't know why there was also a spring as it is a magnetic firing button, but as it was there I made sure to put it back), and this stopped the hot fire button issues and also stopped the sparking.
I sent the company I bought the Kindred V2 from a photo of the corrosion that had happened in under 2 months, and they got straight back to me yesterday with a very apologetic email saying they will send me a replacement Kindred V2, and to feel free to keep my current one as spares and repairs for the mod.
They only posted it yesterday, but it arrived today, so I am now using the new Kindred V2 and keeping the others for spare parts just in case something like this ever happens again.
The mech only cost £4.99 on a supersale, but I preferred it to mechs in my collection that have cost 5-10 times the price.
Here is a picture of how bad the corrosion was and the plating that had worn off of the magnets, which made the mech dangerous to use- this had no way occurred in under 2 months of owning the mech so I must have got a bad one that had sat in storage and gone bad, and after some use it got a little worse to the stage it became dangerous to use.
I just really wanted to say how impressed I was with Premiere cigs customer service, and replacing the mod upon seeing the photo I sent them of the corrosion.
Now I have a few spare mod bodies and also switches, so I am going to order some magnets that are the right size for the mod so if the coating comes off again I can simply replace the magnets with a higher quality set, and hopefully keep my favourite mech mod going for years to come.
