Fear not, Mad Men fans. AMC continues the period drama legacy with another season of Halt and Catch Fire. Best of all, “SETI” is a very strong start for the show’s second season.

The only real downside to this season premiere is the fact that it doesn’t answer all of the questions left hanging at the end of Season 1, particularly with Joe. However, that’s the only complaint I can lodge; given there is a whole season ahead of us, it’s hard to fault an episode for this -- particularly with Halt and Catch Fire, a show that enjoys playing things close to the vest until the very last moment.

So in place of learning about Joe’s mother, we find him in a very interesting and, frankly, unsettling position: what appears to be an honest, stable relationship. This season, Halt introduces Aleksa Palladino as Sara Wheeler, a woman Joe met and fell in love with during the year-and-a-half-or-so time jump we witness in the cold open. It’s a jarring development to say the least, but also this episode’s most interesting one.
