Harrow County #1 is one of the most haunting comics to come out in some time. Not just scary, but haunting. It’ll chill you to the bone, and leave you bereft of any sense of comfort. Cullen Bunn presents a debut issue that absolutely drips with mood, and fans of horror simply cannot afford to miss it.Harrow County is set in a quaint farm town with a deep, dark secret bound and determined to come back to bite everyone square in the butt. The opening pages present one of the most chilling prologues to a horror story -in any medium- to ever see the light of day. It’s effective in establishing the eery qualities of this story while also informing the set-up by way of a narrator who is somehow as quaint as he is unsettling. From there, we are introduced to handful of characters that you can’t help but like. Some are sweet and innocent, while others are sweet and anything but innocent. Bunn lays out the plot perfectly through the use of these characters, and it’s terrifyingly clear they are anything but safe. Even, in the case of our main character, from herself.
