Has Vaping hit a plateau ?

Great thread with brilliant points of view all around!

I believe vaping has hit a plateau. However, I believe it to be temporary.

It really wasn't long ago, that 20w was all the rage, and there were only two manufacturers that made regulated boards that provided a smooth (no decernable PWM) vape. We were forced to pay a premium to get those devices, because manufacturing lots were smallish, and demand was low, comparatively speaking of course. One of those suppliers firmly believed that anything over 15w was unsafe, and maybe it was using batteries of the time. Their quality was (and still I suppose) superb. The other supplier only ever made one device, and committed to supplying boards only since then. I digress...

During the times mentioned above, every single device that originated in mainland Asia was basically shit...but they were cheap. Not looking to to start anything about how great a vamo was, or the superiority of a siegeli tube here, but compared to just about ANYTHING today...you get the picture.

In a relatively short period of time, vaping has become more refined, and devices debatably, very much equally balanced. Today, we can buy a dual 18650 mod that has all of the bells and whistles, with smooth as silk output that's accurate, for less than $40! The technology has stabilized. Manufacturing methods have been streamlined. I can't help but but compare this to a vastly accelerated development path similar to cars and aircraft.

I believe the "next big thing" will be battery/power related. I just saw an article earlier about a breakthrough in lithium-ion. As far a delivery methods, as stated in other posts, ceramics are again being introduced, except this time using more purpose-built materials. The real game changer, will be the developement of another medium for vapor production, meaning no longer depending upon PG/VG carriers. Hell, it's even possible a sort of solid would be developed, the reduces to vapor when exposed to voltage, reducing or even eliminating the need for heat.

So yeah, I think we're in a plateau period. As long as Uncle Sugar doesn't decide to wipe the industry from the country, the next year or two will yield some really interesting developments, imho.

Closed system? This Idea needs to go quietly into the night. A big part of the regulatory war is about getting rid of the "open systems". I could not have quit cigs without them. I cherish, and will continue to fight for, my freedom to vape whatever flavors and strength liquid that I choose. Including my own DIY. This " closed system " idea is one step close to one of the things that the pro regulation people want. The deeming regulations will ultimately hand control of our industry right back to big tobacco, because they will be the only ones who can afford to play the game. A closed system also plays right into the hands of one of the naysayers arguments: You don't know what's in that thing...

It's not just the easy money from Altria and Reynolds, but this gov neither favors or has the manpower/IT infrastructure to monitor, tax, and regulate a multitude of small businesses in any industry. We're even seeing this with the ACA forcing small medical practitioners out of existence, even more so than in the past.

Closed system tanks will have very little affect on the "industry" since its very difficult to erase what has already been done. (rebuildables/DIY)

As for naysayers arguing you don't know what's in the closed systems, well, the same can be said for about 80% of the e-liquid industry.

I agree with both of you; without being able to choose my own flavor, I'd never have been able to get rid of the cigs -- it was very hard to find an ejuice that was similar enough to Virginia Slims to suit me, but I finally did, and the accustomed flavor (or a close facsimile anyway) was the necessary ingredient for me, not the heat or vapor or feel -- I started with a cigalike, but given that eRolls get very hot right in the middle where you might hold it, in the traditional "V" of the fingers, I soon learned that the size/shape was really irrelevant -- for me, it was all about taste.

And at this point, the only people who "don't know what's in it" are those who OBSTINATELY REFUSE to know. You can't fix stupid, especially when stupid is just plain determined to stay that way.

Most vapers would care less even if Dr. Crimmy himself mixed up a Ziploc baggie of juice from his toilet as long as it was cheap and came with some free samples. Sometimes it seems vaping has plateaued into the realm of MacDonald's lol

Someone said that it is impossible to make someone understand something when his pay check is determined on him not understanding that something. I can't remember the exact quote but I think it was H. L. Mencken.

As it stands the people who "don't know what is in e-cigarettes" (which I'm using to mean any vaping device) are those people who are opposed to them on various grounds, and that opposition boils down as all else does to money and who is getting it and who is spending it.

IMO the FDA deeming regulations seem purposefully designed to stomp all of the vaping related small businesses out of existence...
