Having Issues

I am new to the vaping world, and I am having issues with rebuilds on my istick Lemo. I've had it about two weeks and everything started tasting burnt. I tore it apart, cleaned everything, made a new coil (28 guage kanthal, tested at 1.8 ohms (i'll take it for my first attempt), pre-soaked the wick, but I am still getting more burnt cotton taste than juice taste.
I tore it apart and tried again (tested at 1.6 ohms this time), still having the same issue.
I'm really enjoying vaping, and making a lot of progress in giving up the analogs, but this burnt cotton is not the flavor that is going to get me over the hump.
Please help!!!!!

Turn down your wattage or build lower, might try 26g... I had this problem with my zephyrus when I started building my own coils.I'm sure there's tons of videos of other people rebuilding it... Rip trippers maybe?

I've tried changing it up, right now it is at 5v/16w. What do you reccommend?

For 1.8 ohms or even 1.6 that seems a bit high..i couldnt go over 8 watts with a 1.8 ohm coil without it tasting burnt.

Change your cotton and lower your watts to 7 watts then slowly move power up untill you find your sweet spot.

I watched a handful of vids before I made my first attempt, and as far as I can tell I didn't skip any steps. Maybe I'll try my 26 If I have to start over again.

I'd build lower so the volts are lower... I dont have much exp with mods like this cuz I ditched my evod as it wasnt producing enough smoke... But I usually ran that at 3.5v even my .17 ohm build is running at 4.76 at 130 watts.... Truthfully id reccomend getting a mod and an rda... Thats really what got me to quit smoking

Going to a larger gauge wire but keeping a high ohm is not in my opinion the route to go...If you enjoy higher ohm then the 28g is fine..The thicker the wire the more power it takes to heat it up to get the coils hot as soon as possible.. i recommend just lowering your watts with the 28g you have now.

That sucks. I was hoping I wouldn't have to drain my tank again. And I used the remainder of my favorite on this try. Guess I'll be ordering more in the morning.

You can try turning down the watts first, I've got some dry his before and just let it sit and soak up more juice and it didn't taste burnt

Its just a learning process...Ive poured out many tanks back into a bottle..you may lose some but you have some to put back in it.

Lol me too, I bought flat syringes to suck the juice out when I first started cuz id have to redo my coils or the tank would be leaking everywhere, or the juice wells would be clogged, etc. Lol it's a long and arduous process... But so rewarding when you get it right!

I was using a kuro cw-20, thought I had counted out 8 twists, but looking more closely at the one i removed, it looks more like 10.

I might have to order some syringes as well. This wookie cookie is to valuable to me to be dumping it down the drain! lol

Ok...well just keep in mind no matter what your ohms are you can still over power your coil and have the same problem.

I recommend changing your cotton first and lower your power..the amount of watts to show 5v going to your coils is way way to high..Most find a happy spot between say 3.7 to 4 volts to the tank.

The lower your ohms the more wattage it will take to create the same voltage but you still find your best vape more so by voltage than the watts.

Deepending on how much you're vaping you might wanna check out white label juice and much sauce... Large quantities, low price... But you have to steep some of them... Really digging much sauce! They have awesome flavors, but they have to steep... So while I'm waiting, I get a bottle of strawberry pervert from white label (everyday vape for me) and it doesn't really need to be steeped, most of their other flavors do though. Definitely gonna want to use juice companies like this if you start using an rda lol... I go through about 20-30ml a day

so far my favorite juices have been from Vapor Hut, and Cuttwood. I'm getting on later this morning when my wife gets home to order some new juices. I will have to check those two out.

Thanks for your help! since I am going to have to tear it down anyways, I'm gonna build a new coil with lower ohms, and just start from scratch. But, just to be safe I will start low on power and work my way up. Thank you both soooo much!

The lemo's sweet spot for me at least is right at 1 ohm, try using the steam engine website to get an idea of how to hit that number. 28 gauge is perfect for that rta, and I would agree that at that higher ohm level 5v is way to much. Also make sure your wicking is good not to tight or to loose and that its pushed down far enough to hit that juice channel. Not sure of the juice you are using but with the lemo's tight airflow thicker juices may also give you problems. As for wasting juice until you are sure of your builds and your wicking only fill it a quarter of the way up, that way if its messed up you only loose maybe 1 mil instead of 4 or more. The lemo was my first rta and even after moving on to sub ohm tanks and drippers I still go back to it for a sturdy reliable vape...

That will be my goal. The installed coil from the factory was running at 1.1, and I was smoking everything at about 17 w. So far I love this thing, I'm just trying to learn all of the intricacies of rebuilds.

Thankfully I have a back up tank to toke on while I experiment with these other two.

Nice. All I have is 4 Lemos. I have a couple of barely used, hand made, high ohm coils I could sell you for those if you are interested. Lol

Ill try to talk you into making your own e juice here shortly..just hang tight...When you find out for a small up front investment you can make 30ml of ejuice for like $ 1.00 or less it might persuade you:cool:.

eventually, i would like to get into that as well. For right now I am more worried about getting my hardware squared away. Then I'll spend a few months researching the DIY end of things.

You're in the right place for EVERYTHING involved with vaping.

It sure seems that way. It can almost be overwhelming how much info you can find on here if you choose to take the time to ask, or look for it.

I tore apart 2 of my Lemos again, got them down to .9, and 1.1 ohms respectively. One of them is working fine now after some slow wicking last night, the other is still giving me issues. I'm going to try rewicking it and see what happens before resorting to a complete rebuild. Thanks again for all of the help. I'll get it all sorted out eventually!

Often first hits can give a bad cotton taste especially with fresh wicks and depending on your cotton can affect it as well. Even in my kanger tank it takes anywhere from 3-8 hits to clear the burnt cotton taste when rebuilding. With my rda's it takes much more due to a lot more wicking. Also be sure your coil is firing smooth from the center out hot spots can cause burns in one part while the other parts are still warming up ruining your cotton as well.

I'm definitely having more success now with practice over the weekend. I just need to get my coils a bit more consistent. I am ending up with coils varying from .9 to 1.3 ohms. My biggest issue with one yesterday was the ohms reading kept changing after every hit. I opened it up and found out the screw at the bottom (holding the deck) had loosened up, and haven't had issues since I tightened it.

Also I have found that either my ohm meter or my istick isn't calibrated properly, so I get about a .2 variance in the readings between the two.
