HBO President Gives Update on Game of Thrones' Final Season

We still don't know exactly when the final season of Game of Thrones will premiere, but HBO programming president Casey Bloys was willing to give us a ballpark estimate at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday.

"I don't think we've announced the date, so sometime in '19," he said, declining to offer details on the plot of the season, but offering, "I'm not gonna tell you what to expect, but it's pretty great."

When pressed for which quarter of the year it might premiere in, Bloys hedged, "First half." That's not much of a surprise, given that previous seasons have always debuted in either March, April or July.

Bloys also gave an update on the Game of Thrones prequel pilot written by Jane Goldman and George R. R. Martin, which he said they hoped to begin production on in early 2019: "We’re just starting the search for a director, casting director, and we hope to start shooting in the new year."
