Help with Crown, which pre-made coils.

OK, here is the scoop. I rebuild my own coils and have a Crown as well as a Crius.

I am buying for a friend who HAS to stop smoking cigs. for medical reasons and she isn't going to be able to rebuild the deck so lets just completely rule out the RBA deck on the Crown.

For those of you using the Crown with the pre-built coils which coils are you buying and what mode are you running them in? I am buying her a VTC mini as well and 4 batteries and a inteli charger. We DIY so we will be sending her a ton of juice to get her started. The Juice is 30/70 PG/VG. After reading until my head hurt I still cannot find a straight answer and I know I am just asking for it here but I have the .25 coils in the cart and about to pull the trigger on them but just want to make sure.

She lives over 1K miles away so building for her isn't an option.

All that I've ever used is the .25 coils at 30-35 watts and it's a decent vape for me. You can run more power but I don't see the need to burn more juice. It's decent even at 25 watts for me. I have a new one I'm going to clean and start using tomorrow and I'm going to run the .50 coils in it for comparison. My current .25 coil has been in use for probably 8 weeks and it's still fine and I use that tank all day every day.

That is what I am hearing a lot of just wasn't to sure. Hopefully I can get a few more backing that up and just pull the trigger on those. Thanks for the reply.

I'm using the Ni200 coils, but I'm less than fully impressed - happened to get in like 3 new devices around the same time, so I haven't even killed my first coil to test out the others. Wife has been running a lot more liquid through her Crown, she's using the 1.2 coils because she's a lower-power vaper and still getting great results at 20 watts. I'd tend toward higher-resistance and lower airflow (open just a single click) for newer vapers - just converted my brother and his boss and figured I'd start them off on Subtanks because of the restricted airflow even wide open...they're running theirs on the tightest hole (which is waaay less than the Crown offers). We tend to forget that smokers prefer mouth-to-lung when we've been vaping for years and have converted to direct lung draws.

If you haven't committed to the Crown yet (even though it's a wonderful tank IMHO) you might check out the thread from @Shark Vape on modern MTL tanks, he's started a discussion amongst the long-timers who still MTL and there might be something there that's a better fit for a quit attempt...

Thanks OBDave, I will check it out. I forgot what it was like to be a beginning vapor and don't want to rush her into something she wont use. While I still dual use I vape lung shots for some reason easier than mtl.

It took me a while to pick up, but then I was vaping off a Protank 1 and an eGo battery with 18 mg liquid when I was still a dual user...totally knocked me for a loop last week when I realized I'd forgotten how important MTL was when I was still trying to quit.

I have to agree, as a beginner, you most likely prefer MTL, rather than DL. The Crown is mainly designed for DL. IMO, the Goliath V2 with the 0.5 Ohm coil would be better suited. The air flow control can be closed enough to suit for MTL. The Goliath comes with two replacement coils, and a RBA (single or dual coil build possible) I don't remember what the resistance of the replacement coils were. The replacement coils do have a more restricted air flow, than the RBA deck.

VTC mini's a great choice! If you do get the Crown; consider going with the 0.50 ohm coils. They're the best middle ground with that mod. The 0.25 can't be at its best. Don't get me wrong. It can work really well but why burn though the battery at higher wattages for the 0.25? I don't recall ever reading praise for the 1.2 ohm coils, and nickel coils are a serious mistake (I won't debate it). 0.50 is your best bet with the eVic mini. The Crown does have a good range of airflow. The transition from MTL to DL isn't difficult (probably best to demonstrate to her the difference), and once the technique is acquired, most of us generally do prefer DL inhalation. It's airier and less intense, and it's not like it's an advanced breathing technique. She'll probably come to appreciate the quality of the Crown. Quality externals; Machined parts not stamped. It's top fill and it doesn't leak. That's a big deal for a beginner. No leaking! Very nice what you're doing for your friend. You won't go wrong whatever you get.

Forgot to mention, with the VTC Mini, you should do the Firmware upgrade to at least V2.0, better V3.0, and you have a 75W mod, that is capable of TC with SS wire. IMO, for the right person, the VTC Mini with Firmware upgrade, and combined the Crown (which is having SS replacement coils), is a match made in heaven.

Ya, I have two of the VTC mini's for me and my wife and they are up to V3.0. I really like them myself for carrying around when working over my Fuchai.
