RIght! here we go. bought myself a kangertech TOPBOX mini, used all the prebuilt coils FANTASTIC! The ni200 was my preferred coil. Heres the predicament, i bought myself a coilmaster v2 tool kit to coil and wick the provided RDA. So i done my research followed ''vape authority's'' RDA build on youtube (5/4 coil wrap @ 3mm) the coil and wick came out beautiful! i test fired the coil (kanthal 24g that came with the coilmaster) burning inside out beautiful. Wicked the coil using the coilmaster organic cotton that came with the coilmaster kit. Primed it all up, good to go right? NO! First problem, moderate spit back, being new to vaping i thought the coil had to wear in. But then i noticed i could only vape for under 2 seconds before the burnt taste started. i noticed that the juice holes on the RDA sleeve are tiny? could it be the wick can't keep itself saturated? I was planning on drilling it out to the size of the holes in the prebuilt coils?? Final question..... Can i buy some ni200 coil wire to build my RDA and run it in the TC mode?

Couple tips that worked for me.

Put cotton in the coil, Put the sleeve on, cut the cotton at the top of the sleeve and fluff well before gently and minimally working the cotton over the juice holes. Just enough that they are covered with cotton.

If it still dry hits, it helps to gently poke the wick in from the outside of the juice holes. Just push it back slightly.

Also, I never had good luck with 24g. Seemed to hold the heat too much and singe the wick. Better luck with 26 or 28g. And spaced at least a bit. Small build area, really holds in heat.

It sounds to me like a combination of perhaps both over wicking and over powering.

try stuffing the coil with minimal resisitance on the cotton wick and cutting the cotton just long enough on both sides for it to touch the bottom of the juice well but have it thinner as it tapers into the juice well and still thick through the coil.
also figure if you are 5/4 wrapped try lowering your wattage.

not sure where you are set at; but, I would start about 20w and see how that did and adjust from there.

edit: ^^^^^^^listen to that guy^^^^^^^^^

I'll give that a try now. with 24g kanthal what size and how many wraps?
listen to @BKTOAD and drop it to 26 or 28g ... if this is your first build especially - 6 wraps of 26g would rock that thing

Thanks. i will try your wicking tip tonight. as i will have to wait for my 26g to turn up. oh just another niggly question, if i get nickel wire @ 26g will i be able to run it in the nickel TC mode?

Should be fine 5/4. But spaced was key for me. If 3mm gives you trouble 2.5mm might be better.

Edit: 2.5 might be better so you arent choking the airflow with more wicking in a small deck. I have had success with 3mm builds tho.

thanks buddy! I really think its this 24g thats giving me the hassle! I've cut my cotton down so its snug in the coil and just covering the juice holes and I'm hardly priming it. i really got on with the nickel coil that came with the kit and the temp control was perfect! nice clouds nice flavour. can i run nickel in my rda in temp control mode?

I never have personally built nickel in a rba, but absolutely you can.
