We already knew that Valve planned to make an official dock for the Steam Deck. Until today, we never had a good look at what the product actually looks like. You can check out one of the two new images of the dock below.
This is the first time we are seeing full renders of the Steam Deck's official dock. Though imagery has appeared prior to today, it never really painted a clear picture of what we could expect. As Valve confirmed previously, the Steam Deck Dock features a USB-C cable used to connect to the Steam Deck's USB-C port on the top of the handheld. The dock also includes one HDMI 2.0 port, one Display Port 1.4, one Ethernet port, one power in port, and three USB-A ports (one USB 3.1 and two USB 2.0).
In our first impressions of the Steam Deck, IGN's Seth Macy notes that the single USB-C port on the Steam Deck will not suffice if you want to use multiple dongles, suggesting that you may want to buy a USB-C hub. This can be especially beneficial considering that the Steam Deck does not include an ethernet port on the handheld itself, so using a USB-C hub can circumvent the issue.
Valve recently delayed the Steam Deck dock, with the release coming sometime in "late spring." Though we still have no clue how much the dock will cost, of course, you do not have to buy Valve's dock for your Steam Deck; you could use a third-party USB-C hub if you wanted to.
With the Steam Deck officially out, most people won't get theirs anytime soon. And if you have yet to order one, you will be happy to know that Valve has already said it will not increase the price of the current Steam Deck SKUs, though the company may look into creating "higher end" models down the road.
