The newest trailer for Pokemon: Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon: Let's Go! Eevee revealed additional information on different types of moves the partner Pokemon, Pikachu and Eevee, can learn.
Most importantly, the trailer reveals new "Secret Techniques," which replace the original HMs and the more recent Ride Pokemon system. Much like HMs, Secret Techniques grant Pokemon the ability to overcome obstacles to help you get around. Chop Down cuts down trees in your way, Sea Skim lets you surf on water, and Sky Dash replaces Fly as a form of fast travel between cities. Sky Dash might look a little familiar - it involves using colorful balloons to fly away.
The biggest difference is that Secret Techniques can only be learned by the partner Pokemon, and these moves do not take up any move slot. Don't worry about being forced to include your partner Pokemon in you party just so you can get around. It was revealed earlier that Pikachu or Eevee will ride on your shoulder regardless if they're in your party of six or not, so we assume they'll be able to unleash their helpful Secret Techniques at any time.
