After the Fuchai 213 fell off the Harley and got run over by a semi, i needed a new mod last week. Wasn't really happy with the Fuchai, not only the false specs but the TC wouldn't work consistently. I had heard about the G2 but the ergonomics just wasn't there for someone that rides 80 miles + a day and the mod sits between my legs. Then saw the slice for $60 and no one in town had any IPV 6 since they had all been sent back for the recall. At the end of the day, how much can really be expected out of a sub $100 mod? I'm a mechanic, all my mods die to the oil, brake cleaner, dropping them onto concrete anyways, so I consider them all disposable anyways.
I got it Saturday, and spent all week tinkering. All my coil building stuff was locked up in the shop till Monday, so I used my griffin 25 with dual 3mm ID fused kanthal claptons and attempted to temp control: didn't go so well. So I watched every video out out by Hohmtech, and even sat through like 2 excruciating hours of pbusardo videos....
I'm an ASE Master Tech, 90% of what I have to fix on modern automobiles is electronics. I've spent 25 years in independent shops, which means I have to diagnose and repair every make and model made in the last 50 years, so I'm rather fluent in "figuring it out". I've been vaping 7 years, and the original budget of $100 a week I had for cigs, I use on vape gear. All that amounted to nothing while sitting for hours adjusting FSK. I could get it to fire, no problem, but it would climb quickly to the max wattage. So I would turn the FSK down, then it would not fire. So I would turn the temp up, then it would fire and climb again to max wattage I had set. So I would pull the atty off, reset the ohms and try again. So the back and forth game of adjusting FSK, then adjusting temp, then adjusting wattage... Really annoying as ultimately I just ended up setting the wattage to 40 watts, and that's what was really limiting coil temp, not the temperature setting. Either the coil would not fire at all at a given FSK setting, or it would fire and climb to max wattage. So I downloaded the newest update, no change.
This is not my first mod to do kanthal temp control, my Ijoy Asolo did it as well. The Asolo didn't really temp control, but it did stop dry hits when your really doing a hard pull on an RDA. After just a few minutes for the Asolo chip to "learn" the atty, it would definitely stop you from a dry hit, it just did not keep the temperature constant for a perfect, exact duplicate vape, every time you took a drag.

So today I get to the shop and wrap up a couple of 430ss duals for the Griffin: fuking flawless. Best temp control mod I've ever used. Super fast ramp up time, and the vape is the exact same every time I hit it. Form factor works great for the long commutes on the Harley. That guy from Hohmtech is really trying to listen to the vape community, and build a bad ass mod. Vaping mouth to lung, on 18mg/ml + nic is one thing, Doubling the wattage so you can vape the same thing at 80 mph with no windshield on a Harley when it's freezing outside is another. I've got to be able to change temps all day long depending on conditions. Then I need to be able to drop it, freeze it, cook it over 100 degrees in a hot shop or leave it on an engine that is 200 degrees +. I destroy mods, and I'm quit happy with this one weather kanthal temp control only works good on subtanks or not. I'm not paying $3+ for a coil head, same reason I DIY my own juice. It's a good lil mod!

Glad you're enjoying the mod. For $60 it's a great bang for the buck mod. Can't comment on the TC for Kanthal because personally I never use the stuff. I vape exclusively with SS. Lots of people here own and love the Slice. I don't know if she'll be able to take the same beating a G2 would but the G2 type performance is definitely there.

Batteries were an extra cost buy in, but more and more 26650 mods are showing up everyday anyways. Once you build on a 25mm atty, it's so hard to go back to the old 22s. Larger atties and larger bats just mesh well together.

When I first got my G2 I messed with the Kanthal setting and watched the videos from Hohm tech as well but just didn't dig it. It wasn't until I found the wrecker G2 thread on here they they schooled me on using xxx mode, for kanthal that is all I use. It really depends on the build and tank but generally I am between 4% and 13% FSK when in xxx mode using kanthal, the FSK is completely different when in Kanthal mode as opposed to xxx, somewhere in the 50% range.

With this last update though I am using the preset SS modes instead of xxx with great results. So far the SS316, 304 and 430 builds I have tried work so much better than I remembered, was exclusive to using xxx mode for everything.

For your kanthal builds I would recommend you try the XXX mode and try that with the FSK set to about 5% to start. In xxx mode I do t pay much attention to were my temp is at, usually have it between 450 and 500. I usually have my watts turned up to the 75 to 100 range. In xxx mode it is all about the FSK %, adjust that to suit your taste with kanthal and don't worry about adjusting the temp and watts after you initially set them.

There is a lot of great info on the wrecker G2 thread, on mobile right now or I would link it for you.

Using the IJOY Limitless XL .15 claptons I set it at 171 Watts 520°XXX FSK Temp Curve 3.2%

How do you like the Limitless XL? I am about to place my order for one but know to ask you first since you are the man who has tried it all!

I have run my G2 at 171 watts but usually in the 100 watt range. It is the only mod I will do that with, if your FSK is set right it doesn't really matter. I still remember when I was showing a friend how the G2 works, still remember the look on his face when I turned up the watts to 171, he looked at me like I was about to blow my face off :bomb: . I also showed another friend how you can press and hold the fire button and the tank will fire then stop until you take a drag, he was impressed since it was a kanthal coil.

To the OP here is the G2 thread, all the same info is relevant to the Slice since they work the same: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hohm-wrecker-g2.191406/

I read through that thread as well, no one was really describing what I was encountering. It's the fused claptons throwing the chip off. Did a quick 22g dual 6 wrap build in the limitless, and it was much easier to get semi functional. xXx mode does almost the same thing, just completely different FSK % needed.

I'm enjoying the SS just fine, not really stressed about the kanthal.

Can't say I've tried them all but I may have tried a few here and there.
I was trying to compare the Limitless XL to the Limitless RDTA Plus...... nope, can't compare.
Seems to be two totally different worlds.
I can build the same on both and get totally different results.
The stock coil that lights up that comes with the XL isn't bad but I figure if I am going to have a tank I can build on I would prefer to build my own.
.13 - .17 Clapton (24/32GA) are awesome. (6/7 wraps spaces using cotton bacon 2.0)
.18 - .21 Alien (.3*.8 / 32GA are equally awesome. (5.6 wraps spaces using cotton bacon 2.0)
Tested same builds on both and I think I may like the RDTA Plus a bit better but that is because;
1. Quieter (I hit hard)
2. The bottom air flow on the XL can be stiff and difficult to get to at times.
3. Easier to fill the RDTA Plus than the XL.
4. For me, I find it easier to build on the RDTA Plus because there is no real disassembly.

The G2 is the only mod I have ran the XL at that wattage.
After going back and re-reading my logs, ,it turns out that was on the pre-built coil with led lights that came with it.
Once I switched to build coils I dropped to 120 watts, kept rest of settings same as previously posted.
Most generally I run the XL (gold) on the IJOY LUX and the RDTA Plus (red) on the Limitless Box Mod 200.
Both seem to pair up for some awesome matchy-matchy.
Although I do have to admit I had THOUGHT the colors were going to be a bit closer shade of red between the RDTA Plus (red) and the Limitless Box Mod 200.
The mod is definitely a brighter red than the RDTA Plus.

Now if I ever open the box that the Combo RDTA is in I can start testing that crazy thing.
It's on the shelf mocking me.

Thanks for the rundown on the XL @Paratech.

Yeah, I can see the Limitless Plus being hard to beat, really like that tank. I really dig the looks of the black XL though, it shall be mine

Well, a magnet fell out of the door. Thought I would just fix it myself and I glued it back in with the polarity backwards. Contacted Hohmtech and a new door is going to set me back $24. Doh

Try some nail polish remover to get it out. Worth a shot, definitely cheaper than a new door. Lol.

I'm a mechanic, I used the same industrial stuff I glue all that plastic trim back together that shatters. It's never coming out again, lol. Door is noisey when it's in perfect condition new, don't want it making more noise anyways.
