After producing the likes of Gone Girl and Wild, you'd think Reese Witherspoon would neither need nor want to be associated with Hot Pursuit, a lowbrow buddy comedy with none of the subversive charms of, say, 21 Jump Street. Alas, the actress-producer's latest entry falls more in line with her other recent work -- How Do You Know, This Means War and Devil's Knot -- while roping in Modern Family's Sofia Vergara for the mindless mayhem.
The story follows an uptight, by-the-book cop, Officer Cooper (Witherspoon), who -- in an attempt to reclaim her good name after wrongfully tasing a kid for yelling "Shotgun!" -- must protect the sexy and manipulative widow (Vergara) of a drug boss as they race through Texas. Along the way, they're pursued by murderous gunmen and a pair of dirty cops (Matthew Del Negro and Michael Mosley) who pin a shootout on Cooper and her buxom cohort.
