How Faithful Will Syfy's Childhood's End Be to the Book?

No war. No disease. If a powerful entity came to Earth and solved all of its problems, what would be the long term cost? These are questions that Childhood's End, written by Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey), has been posing since it was published in 1953. Adapted for the screen by Matthew Graham (Life On Mars) and directed by Nick Hurran (Doctor Who), the three-part SyFy miniseries seeks to bring one of Clarke's challenging works to the screen.

Can utopia be that bad? Hurran points to a line in the book that says, "The only enemy of utopia is boredom." Actress Daisy Betts, who plays the girlfriend of the man chosen to be the human spokesman for alien overlord Karellan pointed out that no two people's idea of utopia would be the same, once you got past big details like ending suffering.
