How is this for a set up

So I'm new to the world of vaping, have tried ego sticks and alike in the past but have never been impressed.

I was recommended a local vapour store who recommended the following which I have ordered.

The one thing I'm concerned about is the battery. The whole ohm law, Amps and Vv just confuses me despite how much I read.

1x Kanger Subox E-Cig Starter Kit - black

1x LG HG2 18650 30A 3000mAh Battery - LG 18650HG2

The kanger comes with a 0.5 sub ohm OCC will the battery be able to support this?

Great starter kit. Battery should be perfect!! A much better "starter" kit than I started with. And, I used to think those EGO-T's were spectacular.

Sounds like a great set up! The battery should be more than adequate for it. Congrats, and enjoy!

I'm by no means an expert, but I should point out that you're using a "regulated" device which has some built in battery protection. It would be a different concern if you were using a non regulated mod. Within reason you should be good to go. That coil can take a lot of power and you'll know if you're pushing it too hard by the flavor. If it taste burnt, back it down. Good luck!!!

MrDirty, pbusardo did a review of your set up on youtube a couple of weeks ago. Give it a look, I promise he'll give you more information than you will possibly want to know. He's very thorough.

You are off to a great start!

But I would suggest you get a pack of replacement heads, a small charger and an extra battery.

In the vaping world, spares are good.

And I have spares for my spares!

Agreed, what a great starter kit! Best wishes for kicking your smoking habit if that is what you are trying to do.

Thanks guys, appreciate the support!!

It is indeed to quit smoking and take another addiction. I'm already in the process of purchasing spares, I've ordered another battery and looking at chargers now.
Thanks again!!

Wow you guys have been great, I appreciate it. I just received it set the battery up, placed it on charge and followed the instructions about the OCC head and soaking it. Filled the tank and let it sit for a few mins.

Now the OCC 0.5 recommends 15w to 50 I went with 40 then dialed it back to 20. It's a very warm hit which I expected but not getting much flavour.

I'm not sure if the coil needs to break in a little or it's the juice, I'm not sure. It's not a burnt taste more like nicotine (12mg).

Update: I must be doing something terribly wrong as I'm just getting a harsh burnt taste. I did what the instructions said added a bit of e-juice on to the holes. Then let it sit in the tank for 10 mins. I've done this with both the 0.5 OCC and the 1.5. Both give that same taste. Any suggestions or should just go back to cigarettes lol

look in to the coil it self to see if it is burnt . I'm pretty sure you will have a vertical coil so it will easy to see if it is burnt. The nic. will be harsh on your throat but i don't think it has a burnt flavor. but you could try a lower nic as well just dont go back to the dark side

If you were using 12 mg before this tank, then it's probably worth trying the lower nic. If you were on 24 mg before, then it might be a wicking issue. Are p you using high vg? I've had funny flavors out of that tank with 80 vg or max vg juices. I don't hold it against the tank, thats not it's sweet spot but it doesn't stop me from trying it lol. Obviously it's always subjective but if it helps any, I usually have a 70/30 or 60/40 vg/pg in my subox around 27 to 30w with wide open air and I'm happy with cloud and flavor

Oh and my 2 cents on the nice battery you got, buy a scilicone sleeve or plastic case for the spare battery on the go.

Cheers

The both juices are 60/40 the cotton on both heads doesn't look burnt or discoloured.

It's been suggested the RBA one might be better but considering I only just found out what RBA stands for it seems like a daunting task.

Hey, sometimes the cotton is jammed up in the ports of those coil heads and can have trouble feeding...try poking at the cotton with a needle to fan things out a bit and see if it helps you wick up the juice better...even those those .5 OCC heads have this big suggested wattage range I've found that without rebuilding them they don't really like to go above 25 watts and can start giving dry hits easily by 30 watts which can be quite harsh and nasty tasting, but it doesn't mean your coil is ruined, just need to block up the airflow and take a couple strong unpowered primer puffs to get a good dose of liquid back to the coil and you should be alright. Also, it doesn't make much difference for the mod you're using but those LG batteries are 20 amp continuous drain rated, not 30....for your current setup it's not a big deal but it's good to know if you plan to use them for something like a mech mod or a higher powered regulated mod and and RDA's and really start cranking up the watts.

Don't be discouraged. Playing with cotton anything when you're new to vaping can be tricky business....long before there were factory made coils with cotton wicks and the only way you could get a cotton wick is to build the coil yourself I was actually scared to use it because I was afraid of dry hits lighting my wick on fire...I rebuilt for 9 months with strictly silica, stainless steel mesh, and ekowool before I ever got into cotton and now it's pretty much all I use for everything. Like I said, take a needle or a toothpick and play with the juice ports on the side of the coil assembly and try and see if you can open it up a bit, but not too much so you don't just have juice gushing in and flooding everything, just a bit. I am confident that you'll have it worked out and vaping happy in no time....you have a good setup to start with and it's easy to play with and should, once you find the right settings that is right for you, be fairly "fill and vape" and hassle free.

I wish you the best of luck and happy vaping :)

oh...also, along with adding juice to the ports on the side of the coil head, it never hurts to add a just a drop or two directly onto the coil threw the top...any more than that and it will flood but a drop or two like that can cut down on your wait time to fire a fresh coil after you install it from several minutes to just a few :)

Sorry if I am not any help...I try my best and mean well, but sometimes I just miss the mark

Mouth to lung.
I kinda figured. Assuming it's not a wicking issue, which it could be, mouth to lung hits won't flow near as much air across the coil as direct lung hits which can cause it to run too hot. Sounds like you might be supplying it with lung hit power and supplying it with mouth to lung airflow. Some people mouth to lung these sub ohm tanks, but they're designed to be big airflow lung hitters. Do what madmonkey said to ensure it's wicking properly then use it at a very low watt setting. Keep turning the power up until it's obvious you've gone too far. Then back it down to where you like. You'll probably end up at a lower setting than you were before. Good luck.

Vaping with advanced devices can take some time to get it all sorted, but once you get the proper equipment for what you want and get it performing the way you want the results are worth all the trouble. Cigarettes are definately much more simple. Don't give up and good luck.

great start up , Lg batteries are great to use in vv and sub ohm boxes. my friend however has been using a NXJO 3.7v 2500MAH 35A 18650 and he chain capes and its doing him pretty good on that same setup

I have the specs for the MXJO batteries I believe you're thinking of and this is off their own website

"The MXJO 18650 Battery is the newest version of the MXJO IMR Safe chemistry LiMN 3.7V rechargeable batteries in an 35A 18650 2500MAH size. The MXJO 18650 Battery cells can handle high amperage and are safe to use in series multi-cell applications. The MXJO 18650 Battery can be charged with any LiIon battery charger with 4.2V output chargers

MXJO 18650 Battery Capacity:2500mAh
Nominal Voltage : 3.7V
Max continuous discharge :20A
Max. Discharge Current : 35A

Dimensions : 65*18.24MM (+/-0.05)mm
Operating Discharge Temperature : -10 to 60 Degrees Celsius
Standard Charge : CC/CV
Cycle Life : > 500 cycles
MXJO 18650 Battery Weight : 65g"

They're 20 amp continuous drain cells just like the LG HE2/4's with the same 35 amp pulse limit. The cell specs are almost identical if it weren't for the MXJO batteries supposedly weighing almost 20 grams more the only difference at first glance would be the size difference from different shrink tubing being used to wrap or rewrap depending on the battery....despite MXJO's claim to manufacture it just seems too close...anyone passing by this thread know if their claim is true? Or do they just manufacture labels to rewrap batteries with and call it a "factory?"

I'd play it safe in the beginning and stick with batteries we know and love and trust like LG's, Samsungs, AW's, and Panasonic for low amp high mah situations.....Authentic VTC's if you can find them as well...just my two cents no one asked for since I love to share loose change :)
