How to know if insulators are going bad?

Hey everyone! I'm just curious now how to tell if an rta's insulators are going bad? Will the tank get super hot or will the ohms read crazy high? Thanks!

You could take it apart and look at the insulator. Bad insulator can potentially provide a dead short, nutty ohm readings.

Why do you ask?....having problems with a particular atty?

No problems really just used the same tank for a year and daily. So figure it'll happen eventually and i wanted to know what to look for when it does. Thanks for the info!

They start drinking heavily, smoking constantly and hanging out with persons of questionable character ...

Leakage from the 510 and shorts or funny ohm readings will be the most obvious signs. Heat is the main cause of the damage.

My Goliath V1 shat the bed last summer. I think that I got a bit too aggressive while dry burning new coils, trying to get them to glow evenly. Anyway the biggest symptom is that the resistance will jump around crazily...

Yeah dry burning will do it. Have you removed the insulator an looked. Make sure y
ou don't just have a bad or loose connection else where first.

If it was pressed in... it can be pressed out. IF... the insulator can't be accessed. Then I guess the deck is toast.
