I don't think China could even be this dumb

I'm thinking a north Korean company made this thing.
http://www.fasttech.com/products/1/10012516/2114900-megatron-260-1800mah-vw-variable-wattage

Saw this on ft, surprised no one else posted it yet. Truly mind boggling what the written specs are, I'm guessing they're wrong. 1800 mah (less than some ego twist batteries for comparison) like 7v to 13v output, & 260 watts. Nobody on ft even mentioned tho the proprietary charging cable for the built in battery, which to me is just as much an accident waiting to happen as anything else. What is wrong with these people?

If I'm going to buy something like this (which I'm not) at least have the specs listed correctly, the knob for adjustment like a vtr may be okay, but that's about it. Maybe some profeshuna can shed some light on this. Let the wattage race continue. Myself I'm holding out for the istick 50, want something a little bigger with better battery life, love my 20 I just wouldn't mind a little more size and as they say more power.

My bet...these folks are fiddling with the firmware in the IC's...I highly doubt on many of these high watts rigs you are actually getting that kind of power

Only way to know for sure is to build an inline volt/amp meter...see what is really being delivered to the coils...they can fudge the sense resistors on the board and tweak the firmware build to make it say whatever

Just like many Chinese vendors ALWAYS upping the numbers on the output of things to make their products look sooooo much better than the other vendors items (like a single XM-L2 emitter flashlight with a claimed 2000 lumen rating) and 3000+ mAh rated ****fire batteries, and 20,000mAh rated mobile power banks (but when you open em up you get those generic blue no-name brand bulk crapo batteries inside, not to mention the 50~% conversion rate of boosting the 4.2vdc Li Ion battery voltage to 5vdc for the USB charge output)....you get where I am going)

More or less if the number seems unbelievable...always multiply the "claimed rating" by .3 and that will be closer to the real world outputs

Definitely true on flashlights especially, bought some cheapo flashlights for work on amazon, like $5, so they worked fine for what I payed, however the listed output was some ridiculous lumen it wasn't getting anywhere near.

You can tweak em up for higher power...but gotta know what you're doing or you could break it ;)

We do that alot at Budget Light Forums...we take el-cheapo lights and make them run as good or better than some of the very high dollar ones :D

But be careful..it becomes a new hobby and we all know that means $$$ :(

Seems like the Variant, in that it also has a fairly low mAh battery setup but with higher voltages.

from your FT link:

Input voltage: 12.6-13V (typical 12.8V)
Input current: 0.8-1.2A

very bad industrial design too.

So with all the posts in fts forums the staff jumped in and changed specs. 3 built in 18650 batteries (didn't mention if removable) changed the output voltage from 5.7 to 12.6 I believe. So maybe I was a little premature in criticizing so harshly, however something just seems way off to me.

Yeah, FT got some specs wrong, you can see more accurate specs for it on alibaba. It still kinda looks like crap though, now that manufacturers are heading towards slick and sleek, this thing sticks out like a sore square thumb 8)

although it does look like the batts are user exchangeable, they send extra screws for the bottom plate (which makes me think there is a reason to take those bottom screws out)

The Chinese have a habit of continually throwing shit at the wall to see what will stick. I haven't seen a single regulated device yet that doesn't have some kind of durability, reliability, or functional flaw. Their views on aesthetics are equally lacking if not worse. Hopefully somebody over there will figure it out eventually.

Is it sad that I want one?

And, they changed it - 5400mah with 3x 18650s...

IMHO it doesn't look awful, and I for one could get used to the knob for adjustment. However the quality to me is still very iffy.

510 connector looks like plated brass and even if it's stainless it sticks up which means there will be a gap and the atty won't have proper lateral support. The pin appears adjustable, but not spring loaded. Same old bullshit.

FT just takes whatever specs are provided by the supplier. These may or not be accurate or even for that particular model. Accurate specs don't really seem to be much of a concern for Chinese manufacturers. YIHI, their top chip maker, sometimes has conflicting specs on the same page on their website. Pulling the trigger on anything in the new listings at FT that you aren't already familiar with and have researched is a game for those with a sense of adventure and disposable income.:)

Yup, not something I'm gonna do for sure. Considering my one and only experience ordering a spinner battery from ft was awful, damn thing pooped out in a week, I'm not going to buy a mod over there, or even a tank for that matter.

I've bought many things from FT that I'm quite happy with. Your knock-off spinner battery would have been as likely to fail purchased at anywhere else for probably more. At least with FT you have forums and usually a good number of reviews to sort the wheat from the chaff. The gamble is buying something from the new arrivals without the benefit of guinea pigs who type.:)

Kinda looks like they took the chip from an SMY God 260 and tossed it in a (somehow) uglier box. Bet it doesn't actually fire below .5 ohms like the SMY, making 260W extremely pointless unless you just want the battery life. My buddy has a God260, it's heavy as hell and he barely uses it because he likes his .2-.4 sub ohm coils so he just uses a mech.

Aside from what's been mentioned, why the hell is there ego threading on a high powered box such as this? Makes no sense.

Oh u didn't know that was a recessed 510? They had a discussion about that over there too. I don't think an ego type tank would run well on that thing.

If you tried to take that on board an airliner, TSA would think it was a Claymore mine and clear out JFK

Everybody's carry-on needs a grenade mod an ar15 grip mod & of course the new Claymore mine mod. Seen some bullet mods too, can't forget those. Tsa would shit themselves at some people's vape gear.

They will continue developing higher power box mods and lower resistance clearomizers because that is what is selling nowadays, so might as well milk it for all its worth right? LOL

Its quite funny now to think about it, only about a year ago, I remember quite a lot of people would voice opinions loudly that 30watts was crazy, now, it seems to be the norm ;)

The variant uses LI Polymer batteries designed for ultra high drain, the battery packs are normally used to power RC cars, and planes.

Someone on FT had just mentioned that one as an example of low mAh/high voltage use in a mod.

I'd thought perhaps they could have used a LiPo in there, but I see they've changed the specs now to say 3x18650.

I really don't see the need for all this high-power stuff at all. But to each their own, I guess.

The exact same thing was true in the computer industry. I remember when I got my first 10meg hard disk on my 128k IBM PC, thought, "what will I ever do with this much disc space. And look how fast it is". Now look where we're at.

I thought my dual 5mb Bernoulli Box Removable drives were the cats meow. Now I have a 4tb external backup disk that I can fit in my pocket.

Ah, the old Bernoulli Box.. Was quite the breakthrough at the time. Not quite as fast as the hard disk, but what it lacked in speed, made up for it in durability and portability. The old hard disks were so fragile during shipping. I remember our company bought 10 10meg Devong/Tandon hard disks, (1grand each), despite being well packed in cushion foam, they all arrived pre-crashed. !!

Now that we've hijacked the thread, check this out.

We made the first multifunction board for the first IBM PC's. It had a blistering 256k ram, clock chip, serial port and two joystick ports. There were no games made for the PC yet, but we were sure there would be someday. The early IBM PC's did not have a clock chip, and couldn't address anymore than 128k ram. Our boards proved to be unreliable, mainly the clock chip, and a competitor named AST Research picked up the ball and ran with it. When our company went out of business, I grabbed this board knowing I could look back on it fondly and reminisce.!!
