I have a lump in my coil

I use a coil master for my coils. I do a pretty good job, normally. However, when using 24g kanthal I have a hook on the wire where you feed it through the hole to secure before you start wrapping. I can get this out with 26g by pulling both sides with pliers and working it but this does not work so well with 24g. I have tried to over wrap and then unwrap that portion. I have also tried to under wrap, flip the coil around and clean it up by finishing the wrap. This latter works with 26g.

I hope this makes since. Is there anything else? I tried to use the coil master without securing the one end. That didn't work so well.

The lump is also causing a hot spot which basically torches the coil on new builds. The coil can be fixed or it fails.

I avoid it by unwrapping that side of the coil. Say you want six wraps - wrap seven times, then unwrap the side closest to the hole by pulling it with pliers after you push the wire through the hole. Obviously, you leave the coil on the rod while you unwrap it.
