HEADS UP... here is the new announcement from Pioneer4You... a second version of the iPV (the iPV2s) to be released soon.
I have to hand it to these guys they sure are worker-bees. If you want more info check out the YouTube link below to see this second, newer version of the iPV... the iPV 2s.
It is a bit hard to understand Denny's english in the video but here is what is revealed:
The sx330 v2s chip in this version is upgradeable via USB firmware downloads.
You can customize the screen image (somehow) using the USB and a computer. Hmmm.
The mod will run up to 60 watts at the time of the release and by the end of the year it will be upgradeable to 70, 75, even up to 80 watts.
Apparently, and I don't know how they did this, but the ipv2s is now water resistant. (!?!?!?!) Yep. Check it out in the video. He drops the damn thing in water and fires it up and it runs!!!
There appears to be NO battery air vent on the bottom (of this demo unit) so I am not sure if it uses a single 18650 battery of uses some sort of internal sealed lithium battery.
The three buttons on the side have a new polished, recessed area design and look very nice. The buttons are now more BB shaped than the prior flat topped ones on the iPV2.
The box dimensions appear to be the exact same size as the iPV2.
This new model has a nice look to finish and edging... like it is polished and appears to have no gaps around back plate. I assume it has some sort of rubber gasket or seal as well.
The back panel screws are now much bigger (still 2 screws but they look much more manageable).
The demo unit in the video shows the same touch fire button but he mentions that there will NOT be a touch fire on this new model.
No mention of price or release date yet.
I am not sure if I applaud or cringe at their announced release of this version so soon after the iPV2 (july 18th) and the expected ship date for their 100 watt version. Are they shooting themselves in the foot and gonna tick off new iPV owners (by dangling something snazzier) or are they simply cashing in on the recent buzz about their product and company (before their 15 seconds of fame passes). BTW... If you hadn't heard the iPV3 (100 watt) will be out Aug 30th. It has a slightly different design to box (wider) because it has dual 18650's. it does have the touch fire button. And they say it will have USB upgrade to 150w by end of the year.
Chime in... thoughts?
