IPV D2 broken 512 and bad ohm resistance reading

So I ran into a small design flaw with my IPV D2. It’s pretty old at this point and I’m at least the third owner. It had been giving me bad resistance readings for a couple weeks, but they seemed to be remedied by applying a small amount of pressure to the tank in a certain direction. Almost as if I was manually setting the tank into the 512. I went to unscrew my tank, and rather than unscrewing, the entire 512 connection slid out of the box. The white wire was still attached so I went straight to the disassembly (after removing the battery, of course lol).
Apparently, the only thing keeping that 512 in the right place is a single bead of solder inside the box. No threaded nut or anything. Major design flaw IMO. Now, I don’t own a soldering iron so I fit everything into place and resealed the solder connection with some clear gorilla glue. I know it won’t hold forever, but obviously neither can P4Y’s factory design lol.

Anyway, I made this hoping it will help someone else, because I couldn’t find anyone with a similar problem on the D2. I’ve taken apart probably a dozen box mods and I can’t ever recall seeing a 512 mounted that shoddily. So it took me a little bit to figure out what even went wrong.
Good Luck and Happy Vaping ☮️

All those low priced mods last about 6 months to maybe a year of constant use..... That's if the are not dropped..... Most use a nut or a weld spot on the 510....... Pretty weak..... Just dropping it on your desk, I mean falling over can loosen the 510 or the fire button.... They are simply chinese crap......

Now take a Boxer mod or a Yihi sx mini or a Sigelei Fuchai, or a Smoant Battlestar and The Cylon...... They are bullet proof......

I climb ladders and drop my mods a lot from the drink holder and places like that..... So I know the mods that take a beating and still Vaping...... The toughest and best quality for the money is the Smoant Cylon..... I dropped mine from the top of a 6 foot ladder on a concrete slab .... The batteries flew out.... But put it back together and a small ding where it hit other than that.... Perfect..... Built like a tank......

Say what you will about the D2, but for a cheap mod there are a number of them still kicking around out there.

I've got one still in use that I just had to open up the other day because I caught it starting to autofire while sitting on the table beside me. Not a full blown fire, but just the occasional intermittent little crackle from the atty. Explains why it randomly had a dead battery last week.

Found evidence of (old) juice intrusion on the 510 power wire and top of board. Cleaned it up with some 99% iso, let it dry, and seems to be resolved... Though I've been keeping a close eye on it.

They are wonderful if you have to keep an eye on it all night.... Go to sleep and let it auto fire until it catches fire..... Yeah nice for a cheap.... Mod

I can't really blame the mod. There was a bunch of congealed juice on the 510 wire from the v1 Goblin mini that lived atop it for the past idk how many years which had made it's way inside. I'm surprised the thing is still in one piece and functional at all, but not many mods would appreciate having that kind of residue in them.

It was my wifes carry mod until she got pregnant 2 years ago, then it sat batteryless but otherwise juiced up and assembled until I picked it back up a few months ago for salt nic duty.

Since cleaning it up, I haven't left it unattended with a battery in it. Chances are it will end up in the backup drawer if it continues to behave though. It is a yihi board, after all.

Was considering installing a solar ignitor for a model rocket into an old rda, then leaving it for a couple of days in a dry and fireproof environment to really check the results. :D

Edit: Binned it. RIP IPV D2.
