IPV4 Major Screen Problem

No, this isn't your normal run-of-the-mill "oh I hate the mirrored screen, I can't read it, how do I fix!?"

I've searched through the forums but to no avail, as I'm having an issue with the screen displaying ANYTHING. When I put in the batteries the device on it will show the P4Y logo and then the screen goes blank. It will turn on, but you wouldn't know it because there are no start-up logos or anything, you just have to do the 5-click on, and then it will begin firing. I should also add that the batteries seem to be randomly discharging as well (put fresh batteries in one night, turn the device off, and they're dead the next morning, as well as becoming VERY warm.) This problem showed up randomly, has never been dropped or abused, and I'm at my ends' wits.

I removed the charging board in an attempt to fix this issue (no, it wasn't removed before I started having the problem) but it didn't work, and I've tried re-insulating some of the ripped wires inside (due to poor design, not to me removing the charging board) with small bits of electrical tape but neither of these seemed to have helped. I even tried updating it, but it hasn't fixed my issue either, though I can't tell if it even successfully updated since I can't see the screen.

Has anyone heard of this type of problem, or better yet, know how to fix it?

My 1st thought was charging board bu you covered that. I've not heard of an issue such as this. It appears as though some wiring has gone janky. I hate to say but I fear your mod is toast. I can only hope you have some backups.

Same thing just happened to my IPV4S. When I insert fresh batteries, the logo comes up, then I five click it on but nothing on the screen. It fires and I can scroll through my preset memory, put nothing shows up on the screen whatsoever. I gave it a good slap and got it to work for a bit, then nothing again. I have not noticed any random discharging as you mentioned, but I just started using it again and don't plan on leaving batteries in it overnight. Note that this is the IPV4S, so it never had a charging board to begin with. I think it is the ribbon connector to the screen.

Unfortunately I think you have one of a few bum mods that were made. I've read elsewhere that the issue you are seeing is happening in about 15% of the mods.

I had a IPV3 act like that once..
Put the batts in, logo came up, did the five clicks and nothing...so I pulled the batts out and cleaned the contacts in the mod and used scotch brite on the top and bottom contacts on each battery..
I was using this mod dripping on a RDA and apparently juice got into the batt tray...it has worked fine ever since and I'm cleaning those contacts more often...just to make sure it fires when I hit the button ..

if it drains batteries overnight, or the batts are not discharged equally, plus the screen issues means a defective unit, at least to me.
