Nothing is burned or melted, just the "wrapper" starting to peel....

The wrappers on 18650s are thin and it is completely normal for then to peel when they get old. I would suggest buying some heat shrink to re wrap the battery or tossing it. I have an old battery that the wrapper started peeling and it caused a short. I'm lucky the thing didn't blow up

I've cut and torn many a battery pulling them in and out of my mods....you can get precut tubes from RTD vapor and a few other places for cheap....and then trim them and use a blow dryer as a heat gun to shrink them. I would be careful though and look your battery over....I see a little dent in the top...and that should be ok...but the other question is how many charge cycles has this battery gone threw? if a few hundred of heavy mech use is the answer maybe this poor guy is asking for early retirement :)

Bad camera angle, that's not a dent, it's yet another spot that's starting to peel. I got a pair and the other one still looks new. They are a snug fit in the Cloupor, probs how it happened. I'll look into the wraps since they're still fairly new, thanks!

Yeah, they're like a buck something for ten on that site precut...it's worth the extra few cents IMHO than getting a bulk roll of battery tube and going threw all the hassle...if they're that new you're fine...I was just mentioning it...I have a mech that loves to shred the corner's of batteries and it seems like the VTC battery wraps are thinner than anyone elses...it sucks i know :)

I tried that one, good price.....but couldn't get past step 2 of the checkout, even though I had all the info checked. :(
Ended up at RTD, $1.60 for ten and near $3 for shipping....

On youtube there's a reviewer called "The Don". He has a vid on how to do that. Seems pretty simple

You might also want to take an emery board to the edges of the sled in your cloupor to prevent it.

Careful shopping for wraps - some are thicker than others - if you end up with a thick one, it may not fit your Cloupor anymore. One of my mechs is really tight too, learned that the hard way...

Here's the pictorial that I used for reference: http://lygte-info.dk/info/BatteryRewrapping UK.html

edit: haha never mind - didn't even realize how old this thread was! :D

@cindycated Never too late to add some good info to a post. If anything you may help some one who comes along later and sees your helpful information.;)

Unfortunately the worst place for the PVC to rip is at the top cap's edge. This is because this point is where the positive and negative terminal meet. Meaning it is much easier to short-circuit without covering there. As others have said, you should re-wrap the battery.

Damn. This isn't pretty. Just noticed melted plastic on the body where the positive end of the battery goes.

Have you ever noticed your batteries feeling warm or hot when you would pull them out of that mod? No need to answer here, but be honest with yourself answering that question, that mod isn't worth causing a fire in your house. Clouper has had some bad press lately

Truthfully, no. I will admit the base of a tank will get a little warm if I'm taking a particularly long drag, but that's warm, not hot. The batteries are all cool to the touch. I've also checked them while charging, and the batteries and charger are both cool. I'd never have noticed this if I hadn't looked.

Well, then that could possibly be black silicon glue your looking at rather than melted plastic. I don't know how hard that glue dries, but try taking a small screw driver and poke at it to see if it's softer than the plastic on the battery sled. If it is, then it's glue for sure.

Might be glue to fill in gaps like on this sled.

I wrapped the two batteries that were peeling and put one of them in it and there was no heat. I even took a few drags without the battery cover and felt for heat at both terminals, but it stayed cool. You could be right, but it does look melted. I'll keep a check on it, I always carry my KBox to work because I'm afraid I'll drop the Cloupor. And I never leave a battery in the Mini if it stays at home. Never leave batteries on the charger if I leave the house either. I'm somewhat paranoid.....lol!

I bought a fake Hana modz from FT. It came with a battery like that. I think they toss batteries with torn peels into mods with USB and screwed in covers.

With the variables we're dealing with, I don't think that's being paranoid. ;) Glad your stuff is sorta OK. I'm with you, sounds like the peeling wrap might've zapped it . And I'm sticking to that, because I really really want one of those Cloupor minis with a lime green sleeve! :p
It's like a fake Vapor Shark (which is what I really wanted). My putt-putt Saturn Astra is like a fake Audi A3 (my dream car), so they'll go really well together. :D

I am paranoid about batteries myself...it's not paranoia at all it's just good common battery sense :) I will say this though...the Kbox isn't exactly the toughest little mod ever made. One of my friends I recently got into vaping decided to go with it as his first step up from an eGo kit I made for him...he's the kinda guy that impulse buys something shiney and then asks someone who knows about what he bought later hoping he doesn't end up with buyer's remorse :) Anyways, he's also a clutz...one good drop on the Kitchen floor and I was helping him shop for an IPV mini...just be careful with the little guy. I really like the Kbox for the basic little mod that it is...I just wish Kanger would have made it more solid. :)

Fortunately the KBox isn't as expensive to replace as a nicer mod. I already have a spare....lol!
