I'm gonna be upgrading from my vap pen to a istick. What do I need to learn about next? Like volts and ohms? Any suggestions on posts to read?

Go to the V.U. search box and enter ohms law, battery safety, etc. You will find threads that will help you a bunch. I own 3 Isticks (30,50,60) and I would recommend the IStick 60TC since it's about $25.00 or less at most online retailers. I run the Herakles V1 tank with the Ni200 coils at 480F with 70/30 blends on mine, and the performance is stellar for flavor and vapor production. Tank was 15 bucks at vapenw.

The Istick 50W has great battery life when using it at low wattage.
There are still a few places that sell then online and they go for around $35
I still use mine, over a year old now, and I charge it twice a week at most

I read where this one guy wouldn't listen and almost blew his self up. Nuts lol that why I want to learn this stuff. I don't want to be a statistic.

No chance of that if you are informed and use them as they are supposed to be used, read up and you will be fine:):) Good Luck!!!
