I have a iStick 50 and I seen some post and had some people tell me about problems with them.
So I started asking the local vape shops if there was any truth to some of the stories going around.

One shop told me that they contacted Eleaf asking them the same questions I had.

They did confirm that some of the iStick 50's were auto-firing and in some the batteries were venting.
They claim the No 1 reason for this happening was from abuse.
But went on to say that they included charging the iStick 50 with the wrong type of wall adapters is a form of abuse, and that was one of the biggest problems.

The iStick 50 is made to take a charge up to 1A and some people were using smartphone wall adapters that had an output of 2A and even as high as 4A.

Now I have personalty had shops tell me and heard them tell other people that any USB wall adapter will work and when I asked are they sure about that, they would say that it only puts out as much as the device can take.

I would have to call BS on that but never put much thought into it because I was always told that a trickle charge was the best way to charge a battery so I charge most my batteries at 500mA, I know batteries have come a long way but I'm never in any big hurry to charge mine anyway.

The 2nd reason they gave was that some were clones.

The 3rd thing they did mention was that during the manufacturing of the iStick 50 that they ran out of the Newer mini USB ports and the factory installed some older style ports that were made for the iStick 20 but they are still doing research to see if this could be causing any of the problems because the 20 also can be charged up to 1A .

All the above is coming 2nd hand to me from a guy at a B&M claiming he talked to someone claiming to be from Eleaf so take it as that.

I had a friend screwed up a iStick 30 and a MVP v2, they both stopped holding a charge.

The only thing I could come up with was,
She had her wall adapter plugged into the same wall socket as her refrigerator,
and she told me if she tried to plug a microwave or a vacuum cleaner into that same plug that it would trip the breaker.
So I am thinking the frig kicking on and off sent a power surged to the iStick 30 and MVP and screwed up the batteries.

All my battery chargers and wall adapters are plugged into surge protectors.

I'm not a electrician or a electrical engineer or anything even close to that and I posted this just in case it might help someone from frying their device,
I am sure if all of this sounds a little fishy that the members here that know more than I do will let me know lol

Hmmm, fishee?
Nah, kinda makes sense actually. Thanks for sharing the info you have recieved.

I have been having some problems with mine for a few weeks. No auto fire but the thing does just shut off for no reason. Even if has not been used for a while and is nice and cooled off I take a puff, go for another and the thing has shut off on its own. And the button has become really finicky and doesn't always fire when pressed or stops firing mid puff.
I've heard of them auto firing and glad mine has not had that issue. I bought one for my brother the same time I got mine and he has had zero problems with his.
I pretty much only charge it with the charger and cord it came with. Seems like the smartest thing to do.
Still an awesome little device and like many things, has its own bugs ;)

IMHO, quality control or lack thereof is the issue.

The things are inexpensive by design so consider the variables in the manufacturing process and QC leading to failure over time.

I have a istick 5o watt and use my galaxy charger I've heard problems with the pass through as well an I have not had any problems at all even dropped that bitch in my dogs water bowl and put in a container of rice for a few hours and still no problems at all my device doesn't even get warm from chain vaping on a low ohm build I'd recommend them to someone who wants a tough variable wattage mod for a decent price

In my experience with any electronic device, if you use them daily as intended and they last over 90 days, the device will last a very, very long time.

But the Isticks seem to be the exception to the rule.

I noticed something interesting just now actually. I had bought an istick 50 from vaportek usa about a month ago. Worked for 2 days and then it started giving me the dreaded "power low" error. Sent back to them and this kid called me last week and said they were sending another one out. Haven't received anything in the mail yet so I went to their site to send an email asking for status....they've pulled all the isticks. There are NONE on the whole site to be found. Hmmm.
