Life as a functioning zombie didn't look so terrible at the beginning of the season. You get a platinum hairstyle without bleaching, nice (if unnaturally pale) skin, and super strength. You just have to solve the food source problem. Liv made it look easy. But as the first season of iZombie has unfolded, we've become acquainted with the many disadvantages to being undead and the knowledge adds a different tone to the mostly upbeat procedural.
Case in point: Liv never knows what kind of brains she's going to get and even when she has an idea about what to expect, there are surprises. Scott E's brains offered an opportunity for the writers to mess with Liv and the audience, and they ran with it. They cleverly got the obvious delusions out the way, and the talking devils were a useful distraction. The fact that other delusions were a possibility didn't cross my mind, and until Johnny Frost showed up at Liv's apartment, they skirted the edges of reality.
