Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
It's hard to bounce back from the events of last week's iZombie -- for the audience and for Liv. After being cleared of murdering Lowell thanks to the zombie lieutenant, Liv decided to fast forward through the stages of grief by eating the brains of an alcoholic journalist. Eating another person's brains doesn't seem to stifle all existing emotions but investigating a murder gave Liv purpose and investigating the bottoms of bottles of booze gave her solace.
Her grief took on different forms, but she lost it at the end of the episode and the emotion was important to see. It's part of the whole humanizing zombies thing. She turned it into a revenge plan against Blaine which is surprising since her plot to kill him last time didn't work out so well. She arguably has more motivation now, but she'll still face the same question of right and wrong she did when she almost pulled the trigger last time. Hopefully Ravi will talk her down from the ledge.
