Vaporl was kind enough to send me this unit for the purpose of reviewing it. I was a big fan of the Ego devices back in the day so I hopped on the chance to check this thing out and take a trip down memory lane.

When I started playing with this thing my wife made a comment. “Where did you dig that up?” which made me chuckle a bit since it was a new device and she clearly remembers when I used to carry around several of these at a time in all of the crazy colors and patterns they used to come in. These were a staple in our household for a while and it is instantly recognizable as such. Memory lane trip award, achieved.
On unboxing and inspecting everything the first things I noticed immediately are some imperfections in the paint and a grittiness to the feel of the paint.It also made me think of the 80’s version of Tron. It would seem this device remains true to its heritage in that regard with some nicks on the top and later some that I found on the bottom(not pictured). I never much cared for the quality of paint on these or the finish. Very reminiscent of a rattle can job.

Look around the base of the airflow ring and zoom in on the finish. You will see what I am talking about.
This still has the same hand feel and basic operation as its predecessors as well. I looked around for a couple of the older ones but was unable to locate any for a side by side comparison.
Operation is simple, you press the button 5 times to turn it on and turn it off, single button click to fire with a 10 second cutoff. When the device is off you can press and hold the power button to cycle through the tank LED’s colored lighting. With a 1500mAh battery off is the only real option in my opinion. To me this is a stealth device. LED lights draw attention.
This sample came pretty well charged. It spent 30 minutes topping off and I spent pretty close to about 15 seconds assembling it for use. Screw in a coil, fill it with juice. Vape.
So how does it vape?
Very much like the original. I decided to run this with max VG liquid. Initially with a reasonably dirty DIY juice with some added sweetener. The first coil lasted two days and started tasting like charcoal. I backed off the sweetener and the second coil is still going after several days.
The vape itself is a pretty restricted MTL experience. Even at its most wide open airflow it is a tight draw. I found myself doing the suck, breath, suck method while going on and off the button several times (I always end up doing this as I am a wide open DL vaper). Which drank the battery out pretty fast (2 hours of irregular use). I changed my strategy after a couple of days and used this as a pocket device for when I could not use my regular device and it hasn’t been charged in days. You can use it in passthrough mode while charging although the charging port makes it a little awkward to hold correctly while charge vaping. It can however be done if you are determined.
It is a good representation of flavor and the vapor production is decent for a low power MTL experience and the 2ml juice capacity might carry one for a pretty good distance until they can get back to their fog machines. Again, it is very similar to the original (notice a theme yet?).
I stored this upside down several times for several hours and the only liquid that leaked out were a few drops that was either liquid in the coil or condensation in the drip tip. I would imagine it is possible for a bit more leakage with a thinner liquid but all that came out of this one was perfectly acceptable. Nice to know you don’t end up with a wet spot on your pants from carrying it around. This also fit in several pen pockets in a couple of laptop bags making it easy to store away for later use when the unexpected urge to vape pops up.
So this probably begs the question. Why would anyone buy this, with all of the new stuff offering big airflow, massive vapor production and thousands of watts of power? The answers in my opinion are several.
New to vaping. This would be an excellent device for a person new to vaping. It is very simple and you can be vaping immediately with minimal hassles. The consumables are inexpensive and readily available. Most of the vape shops around where I live carry Joyetech and their coils. So you should never have to wait for overseas shipments if you run out of coils.
Low cost of entry and inexpensive cost of consumables.
This can be an awesome supplement for stealth vaping when you cannot blow giant clouds and just need a nic fix. It is small and has a simple operation.
You want a stealth device that isn’t bound to nic calt liquids. This is a huge perk for a DIY person who is not looking to add nic salts to their lineup.
For the cost of this device, its coils and the fact it isn’t bound to much more expensive replacement pods. I can appreciate this device and may ditch the idea of pod based, draw activated, nic salt devices with a much smaller battery. The fact I can use my regular liquids makes this device much more attractive, in my opinion.
