Judge Cuts ZeniMax's $500 Million Court Winnings From Facebook in Half

After a Texas jury awarded ZeniMax $500 million in its suit against Oculus last year, U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade has reduced that payout to $250 million.

As reported by Bloomberg, Kinkeade's decision to retain a $250 million payout includes $200 million for breach of contract and an additional $50 million for copyright infringement. The $250 million that he is removing from the payout includes damages against Oculus co-founders Brendan Iribe and Palmer Luckey.

Additionally, Kinkeade rejected ZeniMax's request to ban the sale of Oculus headsets. At last year's hearing, a ZeniMax lawyer argued “a permanent injunction is the only way to stop" Oculus continuing to infringe upon copyrights. Oculus argued a proposed sales ban would place unfair hardship on the VR company - Kinkeade ultimately sided with Oculus on this front.
