The official Black Friday week has begun, and the sales are waiting for no one. They’re live already. While the official day itself is November 28, you can already save on a heap of items, including 4K Blu-ray movies. In fact, Amazon is running a Buy 2, Get 1 Free movie sale as we speak. While it’s not included in that sale, you can also get a fantastic deal on my personal favorite movie of all time, the 1993 Steven Spielberg masterpiece Jurassic Park (see it at Amazon).
Jurassic Park for $11.89
I like to joke (but not really joke) that the original Jurassic Park is the only good movie in the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World series. It’s the only one I like one hundred percent. Its Spielberg-directed sequel, The Lost World, has its moments for sure, but it never reaches the heights of the original. And the less said about the third installment the better. I’ve only seen one of the Jurassic World movies, but it was a dud; the rest are not exactly critical or audience darlings.
But none of the failures of the sequels takes away from the fact that 1993’s Jurassic Park is a stone cold masterpiece of action filmmaking. It's the pinnacle of the summer blockbuster. It takes Michael Crichton’s sprawling and highly technical novel and trims and condenses it into a tight action thriller (bordering on horror in some parts) that delivers everything you’d want from a popcorn flick.
It has huge action set pieces. It has the ideal mix of animatronics vs. CGI special effects, using each with maximum effectiveness for the shot in question. It’s funny. It’s smart. It has dinosaurs eating people – and goats. It inspired a spoof song (complete with a claymation video) by Weird Al Yankovic. What more could you want from a movie?
And it’s on sale for $11.99. Jurassic Park bounces around between streaming services, so you can’t really count on having it available at a moment’s notice unless you own it. So pick it up for cheap. You won’t regret it.
In other deal news, you can save on just about everything at least somewhere. Check out the Black Friday sales at Amazon, Target, and Best Buy to see if anything you want is down to a price you're willing to pay for it.
