Justified's final season was at times one of the best shows on TV and at other times... not. It was thrilling, boring, engaging, provocative, indolent, and breathtaking. Because the beginning and end of the season borrowed so much from the start of the series, it ended bold and resolute. It ended perfectly.
Let's start with the end by starting with the beginning.
Justified is, was, and always will be about Raylan changing. The series started with an incredible pilot episode, a miniature movie with all the flourish of a good action film. We met Raylan, the superficially self-aware, but introspectively unaware, lawman who liked his cowboy hats and guns and being "justified" in killing the baddies. His ex-wife pointed out the major theme of Raylan's life: anger. To Raylan, this was a punch in the gut.
