Kanger Subtank heads vs rebuildables

So I am currently giving the Kanger Subtank Mini a try. So far I am pretty impressed with the flavor and vapor. As well as how long the coil has lasted so far. So it got me thinking. Why are these coils lasting so long?? I typically have to rewick my Lemos every 3-4 tanks using KJD type cotton. This Subtank head has over 10 tanks and the flavor is still strong. The common denominator with heads and builds are the coil and the wick. The typical failure point with both is the wick. So what is it about these Subtank heads that keeps them running so long??? It has to be the cotton. But what is so special about the cotton that keeps them going much longer than a rebuilt coil/wick?? And where cant I get some???

All Subtanks (except the Nano) comes with a small bag of cotton that is supposedly the same cotton used in the disposable OCC heads. And places that carries Kanger products often sells Kanger organic cotton. I never used any of my Kanger cotton, so I don't have any experienced with it. But I do use other Japanese organic cotton that I am happy with.

10 tank on same coil ? What type of juice and ratio are you using ? I am not getting anywhere near that type of life from then , also what wattage are you vaping at

I've had the same OCC coils in rotation since I've gotten my Subtank Mini. When I change flavors I just wash the coil out with hot water and vape until the flavor comes through. The things last forever. Wash one, blow out the water, set it on the windowsill in the sun until I use it again. I had a Delta II before this and I'd be going through a coil every 2 tanks.

50/50. Using the 1.2 at 15-16w.

you can rebuild both of the coils in that tank to whatever you want. I have the kanger sub but I prefer the Atlantis and the Starre. If you want a great RTA I suggest the Lemo V2.

Generally speaking I've noticed contact coils seem to gunk quicker than spaced coils. Internally wicked horizontal coils and externally wicked vertical coils also seem to have different lifespans. It might not be the materials as much as the overall setup of the materials. Just a thought.

+1
In addition, the e-juice is also a big factor.

Never thought of that..... Just finished washing out all of my occ's from my first subtank mini to my subox - I've been keeping them in a sealed baggie for rebuilding purposes but I hadn't realized they can be washed

I bought two extra RBA+ heads from fasttech so i can keep them swapped out and have ones ready for testing or a quick swap out when I don't have time to replace the cotton on the spot

I precut my cotton to make the re-wicking easier too

Yes I know this and rebuilding the heads is the only reason I got it. Don't plan on buying more heads. And I have 3 Lemo 2's.

But my original question was why the flavor in the Subtank head with a spaced horizontal coil has lasted so much longer than my Lemo build with a spaced horizontal coil. The cotton seems to be the thing.

Ok, and Yes, absolutely the cotton is a factor. What kind of cotton are you using? Oh, and since you obviously know what your doing. I have a few more questions to help you solve your mystery. What kind of e liquid is it? Did you use the same e liquid in both tanks? How about the air intake? Did you keep them both wide open while using them? At what temp or wattage are you firing it and do you keep it at that setting always? There are many factors, my friend.

As in my OP I use KJD type (Puffs brand) cotton. Using the same juice, GLV Deadly sin which is a 50/50, 1.2Ω build on my Lemo 2 vs 1.2Ω Subtank head running at 15.5w airflow half open. Very similar variables with quite different results. The Lemo build requires rewicking after 4-5 tanks and the Subtank head has at least 12 tanks right now and the flavor is still strong.

Were the flavor outputs for you the same at the beginning? Hey, I have both tanks too and I love them, the Lemo2 slightly over the kanger sub, mini and nano and that's saying something because I used to a total kanger fan. But first these are just MY observations,Okay. The tanks in question are called "Sub" tanks for a reason. Your supposed to use them at SUB ohm. Try building as .7 or .8 ohm on them and just drop your wattage a bit. I have my lemo v2 set to .2Ω and my kanger to .5 Also, you didn't say what kind of juice?

The two different builds may have the same resistance, but different gauge wire. The density of the wicking may also be different. I still say it's the details of the setups being different, not slightly different types of cotton making that much of a difference. Of course who knows. There may be similarities between the two, but it's still kinda apples and oranges. If you somehow figure it out for sure let us know. Good luck.

Yeah I know they are two different setups. But still very similar at the same time. Just seems weird that the flavor lasts so much longer on the Subtank head than my builds. Used to be just the opposite with pre-built heads. How times have changed.
