Don't lay it down, first thing. As EJ said, stand it up.
Or unscrew it, and stand the tank upside down on the tip. I do this when I'm swapping between tanks during the day.
You have 2 O rings. One just inside the coil opening, another on the bottom of the coil. If either are damaged, it can cause flooding. I've seen knock offs with wire sticking out from beneath the bottom O ring. That's never a good sign.
Hopefully, you aren't filling the coil to prime it. If so, stop. Just a few drops into the cotton should do.
