Kangertech Subtank Mini. After the hype thoughts.

Allright. So the following is my take on the Subtank Mini and Nano and the OCC coilheads. Lets start out with the coilheads, because all are not the same and the difference in performance is massive.

When buying new coilheads, please make sure you get the ones with the RED insulators, not white. The ones with the white insulators taste like someone has put a rubber duck in an oven. The ones insulated with the red stuff taste wonderful, right there with the Kayfuns and no weird rubbery aftertaste. Only real issue i have with these is the way they are wicked. In China they pack these so full with cotton that anywhere over 20-25w they start to taste burnt. Luckily its an easy fix, just poke through the cotton with a sharp needle and wiggle it around a bit, that makes a small channel for the juice to get right in the middle of the coil, where its needed the most. With that easy fix, i can run 70vg at 30-35w and the vape is just wonderful.

Allright, then to the tank itself. These are easy to wash and rinse all through, i have had zero leaking, no gurgles, just a great vape. Airflow is pretty versatile, it can be used fully open for easy lung hits or closed off for somewhat comfortable mouth to lung.

Only real issue, beside the one with the coilheads, is the RBA section. The juiceflow is just not good, not good at all. I suspect its made that way to prevent leaking, but at the same time its making it very hard to get working at higher wattages. When i got it working, the taste was good. So maybe Kanger should open up the juiceflow a bit, because as it stands i don't even use the RBA. Its a PITA, always being careful not to get a dry hit.

Other than that, i can only say that the hype is real. Hope this helped some of you who are willing to dial down on wattage and vapor for better flavor.

I agree with this. I gotta admit it's a bit of a pain messing with the coils, but when I get one wicking right, I love the little guy (I have the nano);)

Its really really simple actually. Just ease the small needle in, you may have to kinda screw it in there because the cotton is just insanely dense. Once in, kinda wiggle it around to make the hole a bit larger. Don't try this with wet cotton, its not going to work because the cotton is so tight.

Thank you Rommel. I'm just waiting for mine to arrive and this info will be really helpful.

Yea, thats what I do. I just find if I maybe poke to much, when it sits for a bit, I will get alot of spitting on the first few pulls. After that it is fine

I just want to point out that there are 2 versions of the sub tank mini. Version 1 only had one slot on the base for air flow. Version 2 has 2 slots on the base and the rba has bigger juice holes on the bottom. I had to drill holes on the side to get more juice and stop the dry hits. It seems 24 gauge at 3.0mm or 26 gauge at 2.4mm work the best that I have found on the rba. Thoughts on the gauge and mm on your rba's?

I will try the needle thing see if it improves no dry hits but it's just strong in the inhale and cough cough and exhale no vapor it's weird

Very true. I like the newer version bettet, its more open if you want a good lunghit and it can be closed off for a very comfortable mouth to lung. Its more versatile.

It's a shame Kanger came out with this tank just before I decided I have giving Kanger all the money I plan on giving them.

I have 3 ST minis, 1 original full size ST and the subtank plus, so can say I am sold on the subtanks, I use the RBA's on all 3 mini's at home, and use the OCC coils for the plus at work, I only vape the stock coils at 23 watts, but get a good vape from them, so I am fine with that, on the RBA's I vape at 25 watts, I don't have any problems with mine, but I use 50/50 juice, so pretty easy to wick. I love how easy the subtanks are to build and fill, also get a really good vape from them.

Before the subtanks, I had all different tanks, but now I only have subtanks, and don't really pay attention to the new tanks coming out now, am I done spending money, hell no, but now have more money for mods and juice :)

I am a big time subtank fan. I've got the mini on me pretty much all the time, I still have my OG ST (on loan to a friend just getting started vaping at the moment :D) and my wife uses her ST nano all day, every day. My only real complaint is the RBA deck does not do well with my preferred high/max VG juices but I'm going to dremel out the juice channels on the RBA deck today so it can handle them.

I've opened up the rba juice channels on my mini so my high vg will wick. It worked very well.

I love my subtank but I end up getting frustrated with dry hits on the RBA and rebuilding the OCC coils instead. I pray for the day that Kanger or a 3rd party just makes a rebuildable deck with the same basic juice channel design as the OCC

Well, I should know more about them myself shortly.

According to USPS my Subtank Mini with box of coils and an extra RBA head should be arriving in the next hour or so:D

Thanks, I love cool goodies! And I even have some candy shop flavored E-Liquid to test it with.

Even though I had to steal it all from underaged kids that were lured into vaping with my butter toffee and vanilla custard flavors!

I love love love my subtank plus with the rba. I totally gave up on the occ coils and thus my 2 nano subtanks, i just got sick of never knowing if i was about to get a dry hit. Even rewicking and using a pin to make a hole for juice to flow in anything over 20 watts was asking for a dry hit. The rba coil when wicked right will never dry hit even at 30 watts and chain vaping.

I have three of the original minis, and all three of them have started leaking like sieves after several months of use, despite changing O rings and thorough cleaning. I can only assume it's to do with the bases - I've tried swapping RBAs, using OCCs. I don't know what else to try! It's not condensation, because it's literally like a spew of hot lava after a few minutes of chain vaping. Or maybe you really can't chain vape on these things. I wonder if when they get very hot the metal expands and it loses the vacuum?

Mine dont leak like a sieve, but some condensation does happen and juice finds it way between the airhole adjusment and the base. I take it apart and clean once and a while, seems to work. But if it does leak, only way for the juice to get in is at the base of the RBA/coilhead. See if theres something weird going on?

AmanadaD you might have gotten some from the first batch. I knew someone that had leaking issues as well and I was able to fix it by doing some repairs to the glass.

I found that the glass itself was not perfectly flat on the bottom. I took some wet sand paper and flattened both sides of the glass tanks.and viola no more leaks...

I've had my mini for a couple months. I loved it from the get go but the airflow was a little too restricted for me. I've been running a 24 guage vertical coil at .6 for about four days. I'm in love all over again. Perfect airflow and great flavor.

I have all 3 sizes of the tanks and all of my Kanger tanks leak. Not bad. I noticed that they leak the most when there almost empty. Also when I put a new coil in they're good for a day or so... Then the leaking starts. I use Max VG mostly at 20 to 25W.

Im getting some leaking from my Nano..Seems its coming from the occ coil heads and leaking down into the air flow control...My guess is the little o rings to seal the coil when tightened down.

Other than that im loving the little cloud and flavor maker.

Ive found the stock drip tip to be over kill though...anything larger than the tube kills flavor...I put on a kayfun drip tip, the one with the little tiny hole on the top and despite very littel vapor the flavor and sweetness from it is simply out of the ball park.. a happy medium ive found to like is the tip that comes on the aereotank...its slightly larger than the internal diameter of the chimney and is longer in general helping with a not so hot drip tip...Full lung hits with wide open air flow is not an issue as its larger than the chimney but flavor is enhanced in general.

I'm not impressed with mine. I use it wide open and it's like an Ego. Only thing I ever got from Kanger that didn't blow me away. Like a Pro Tank 3 only prettier.

Then Egos must have improved since I used one...LOL
For Me not knowing an e cig from a concrete mixer they were a God send. I bought 10 starter kits & have passed them out to people I care about. I'm so into cloud chasing sometimes I impress myself. I got some nice toys.

LOL I'm into flavor. My old, smoking-impaired lungs can't handle big clouds! (But looking at the windows and mirrors in my house you wouldn't believe that - they're all smeary, and they were cleaned a week ago!)

I mix my own. Drove a garbage truck & worked for waste water in my youth. Only thing I have ever seen that grosses me out is cleaning the smoke off of stuff I own. That crap is just plain nasty. Ewww

Got some money in vaping, but still way under the cost of a funeral, mine.

That makes sense! (I hate to think how much I've spent since I stopped smoking...hmmm! The figure in my signature of amount saved is a total lie!)

Oh, and DIY is the only way to go - I'd be living on the street if I was buying juice!

Juice is not my problem. Have enough for 30 years or so. Not made yet. I'm a Atty & Mod junkie. If it's pretty or neat, or tech, I want it! Got less than 5 that ain't worth shit. Been lucky.

I'm so happy I found this! My bf kept looking at me like I was crazy when I complained of a dry hit on my mini. I have to take a long dry pull off it before I hit it if it's been sitting too long just to pull some juice into the wick on the rba. So happy I'm not actually bonkers.
