Koch Media and SNK Corporation have announced that The King of Fighters 15 will be released on February 17.

Revealed as part of Gamescom 2021's Opening Night Live pre-show, The King of Fighters 15 will launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store.

King of Fighters 15 will feature 39 playable characters, drawn from the Orochi, NESTS, and Ash sagas. By bringing together classic characters and resurrected favourites, the King of Fighters storyline is said be be brought to an "explosive climax".

Gameplay will revolve around the classic 3v3 team battle system, and introduce a new Shatter Strike mechanic that allows for enemy attacks to be countered. MAX Mode has been improved, and a new MAX Mode (Quick) option added, which adds a rush function to allow rapid combos to be unleashed.

Alongside these modes are local 2 player battles and online battles for 2-8 players. Ranked match, casual match, room match, online training, and a draft vs. mode are all available for online play.

An in-game gallery features the in-game cinematics, as well as a special animated short directed by Masami Obari. The new DJ Station also allows players to choose from over 300 songs from the King of Fighters series, and have them play in the background of fights.

The standard edition of The King of Fighters 15 will retail for $59.99. A Day One Edition, with a Classic Leona DLC costume, will be available for the same price on launch day, and pre-orders will also include the Garou: Mark of the Wolves costume for Terry. A Deluxe Edition for $84.99 will include the above, alongside the Team Pass 1, a season pass that adds six new characters.
