Longtime Subohm - New to temp control

Hey guy,
Firstly I'm here because I'm trying out a new gCeramic 0.5ohm Atom coil in my Crown tank. With little info on the exact material the coil wire is, looking at some videos etc. It seems it's nichrome. So vaping on an ipv4 in temp/joule mode now and wondering - have I got my information right? And has anyone used this coil and have any advice on temp settings etc.

Right now I'm running at 200c 50joules 4.84v - lower than this seemed to not kick it into gear much - started at 170c

Was always a little reluctant to get into nichrome because of its potential to burn the wire, just don't want to breathe burning metal!

Lots of vapour and pretty decent flavour, have gathered that the (slight) coil flavour will die down with a bit of use.

Ah ok, thanks for your response - have mistaken nichrome for actual nickel - isn't nichorme chrome/nickel alloy? so TC would maybe apply?

Nichorme does contain nickel in it but I'm not sure of the actual composition. Some mods claim to do Nichrome TC but so far, it can't be done. The best and safest way to do TC is SS, IMO.

+1 on SS wire. I do all my builds with SS wire, due to the ability to be used with my old/non-TC mods in power mode as well.

Cool, so could you give/recommend a ballpark temp I should set to? Is there anything wrong with just experimenting to see what gives most flavour etc.?
Honestly, these questions are still coming from the warning I heard that nickel will burn, so I'm kinda assuming they don't really apply.

+1 also on SS - my favourite material thusfar, interestingly never used TC with it - do mods have SS TC? Don't think mine do. ipv4 & VTC-mini.

Cheers guys!

Start at 40 watts 400 degrees and just work your way up. Wattage in TC basically regulates how long it takes to get to temp. With my IPV5 I generally have it set to 70 watts, 480 degrees. My go to mod, Vaporshark DNA200 l, is at 60w, 420-450 degrees. The IPV's Yihi chip has a slight pulse in TC while the DNA is smooth and consistant. The only IPV mods that use SS TC are the IPV5 and IPV400. Also, the IPV's that support SS only have a preset for 304 so if you want to use 316L or any other SS wire you'll need to use the TCR function.

SS is far better than nickel. As others said, it can be used in power and dry burned. Nickel also has limitations as far as temp goes. Using it over 420 degrees can be hazardous and depending on your build, you may need a higher temp to get an enjoyable vape. SS TC can be used at pretty much any temp so it's far more versatile.

That's all great info, thanks a lot for your time.
I'll continue to explore TC and read up on some previous threads, cheers!

The VTC Mini definitely has TC for SS (316L). I've been using my Crowns on the VTC Mini in TC a lot, with updated Firmware.
